Windows XP Support >> Windows Startup Help Ok guys i have asked before and i cant remember what the reply was but here
goes.

When i boot my sons machine up running win xp pro, 40 gig hard drive 2 gig
cpu 512mb ddr ram (changed the mem in case it was the sdram), some of the
systray icons don't appear like sound and anydvd and my Epson monitor icon,
i can reboot the machine and then they appear, again i can go on the next
day and some aren't there, this happens all the time. I run AVG, Norton,
anydvd, daemon tools and the volume and Epson monitor are the only ones in
the systray normally.

I have checked with 3 spyware programs and two anti virus programs and the
machine is clean as a whistle as far as the programs are telling me, i have
also been in taskbar menu and nothing is hidden in the hide inactive icons
menu, what is the problem, is there something wrong with windows.

I have also just put the stuff in a new case thinking maybe power supply was
crap but still doing it in a 500w case

help please

dave

Windows XP Support >> Windows Startup Help This is a really common problem. I struggled with it for ages before finally
giving up. The fact is that system tray icons are really just a nicety. What
is important is the processes they are associated with and whether they run
when they should. I have Microsoft antispyware and the icon sometimes
appears and sometimes doesn't but the processes always run. The same is true
of SQL server, the soundcard icon as well as the videocard app. If your
applications are functioning properly then I wouldn't worry about the system
tray too much. Some people arrange for apps to load in fixed sequence at
startup and with a delay between each loading. Other people say switching
off upnp services helps, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer to
this.

Windows XP Support >> Windows Startup Help I've had the same problem in that I can't get the battery power monitor to
display in the taskbar. I've determined that the anti-virus program is
keeping it from loading. I've uninstalled McAfee and everything is ok. When
it is installed, however, it won't display. The same thing happens with
BitDefender. Try uninstalling your anti-virus and seeing if that works. Of
course, you can't be without an anti-virus program but at least you know what
the problem is. McAfee doesn't recognize the problem.
