- Windows XP Setup >> lost outlook messagesI found an article that said "When you import e-mail
messages into Outlook Express 6.0, the list of options
may include only Microsoft Outlook Express version 4.0
and Outlook Express 6.0; Microsoft Outlook Express
version 5 may not be listed.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, select the Outlook Express
6.0 option to import Outlook Express 5 messages. "
This is the problem I encountered, but I can't figure out
how to change this option. Could someone PLEEEASE tell
me how.
Thanks again,

- Windows XP Support >> Minimizing problemsOkay so today out of nowhere my computer starting doing something weird.
Everytime I minimize a window, it minimizes into my desktop. I can not
figure out how to make my windows minimize down to my taskbar...like it

- Windows XP Network >> Networking with XPI have three machines running XP, one is running XP Home
and the other two are running XP Professional. They all
are connected via a router sharing cable connection and
they all can share Internet connection with DHCP present.
All computers have the same workgroup name MSHOME, and
the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
However, the XP Home cannot be viewed in the Workgroup on
both of the other XP machines. The only way the machines
can be accessed is if I click Start, Run and type \\<ip
address>. What could be wrong? The XP Home machine
doesn't seem to show in the workgroup, yet the other
machines show up just fine.

- Windows XP Security >> Connet to Pasword overwrittenIn the past couple days, something has been overwriting
the stored password used to connect to my ISP. I can
connect by typing over the password but even checking the
save password box still cause the mystery password to show
up again netx time. I tried deleting the current
connection and setting up a new connection to no avail. I
also created a second and third connection adn the same
myterious password shows up each time. I have run a
complete virus scan using the latest Norton software and
did not uncover any hidden viruses.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP >> Interesting Licensing QuestionWhich by the way hasn't been covered, or I just missed it in the past 3
years.
We all know you can use an upgrade version of XP if you own a previous OS
like 98, and are only required to put the disc in to verify, then XP will
install.
Now, what is the status of that Windows98 disk ? Can it still be used for a
PC installation ?

How do I do it?

- Windows XP Security >> XP standalone lockdown - help!Hi All,
I need to lockdown a couple of machines that aren't on a domain -
here's the scenario:
Got a business requirement for public, "internet cafe" style net
access in a corporate setting. For a variety of legal, technical and
other reasons this isn't going to happen through our LAN, but via a
separate ADSL broadband install that is totally unconnected to our
main network. I'm anticipating a simple ADSL router and a couple of
machines connected to it - not even in a workgroup, but simply for
internet access.
What I want is to be able to nicely lockdown the clients for all users
apart from the admin. If this can be done with XP home then all well
and good - if it can be bodged with GPEDIT off a pro machine. If not,
we could get XP Pro.
I want to lockdown ability to install, hide various windows components
etc etc and this doesn't appear to be trivial.
Can anyone give a simple guide to doing this? All I've read so far
appears to involving GPEDIT much like you would on a domain, but just
on the local machine.
It's very tempting to save the licence money and stick a linux client
on but I think the punters would prefer the familiar XP GUI.
Cheers,
Ric

- Windows XP Support >> Wha's up with KB928366For over a month my computer has been updating this KB update. Finally,
tonight I went and found a removal tool for it in hopes that the next time
it updated would be the last time it updated.
WRONG! Or rather....now it won't update at all.
How do I get my computer back on track.

Thanks!

- Windows XP >> Playing an IPOD on the PC without buying hardwareI have an Ipod Nano and I want to somehow play it thru my PC speakers. I

It's a laptop so there's no real sound card.

- Windows XP >> patin couffin access layer will not uninstallI have been trying to uninstall the patin couffin access
layer which is packaged with the Blind Write suite, and I
was able to do this successfully on a Win 2000 Pro
computer, however my XP home computer is not showing it in
the usual places in the device manager, even when "show
hidden devices" is checked.
If anyone knows where the hardware access layer files
would be stored within the windows directory, it makes
sense to me that i could try and manually delete or
uninstall them from there. does this sound possible???
any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Windows installer appearsThe windows installer box is appearing briefly when I
open certain programs, such as Control Panel and Internet
Explorer. They open and work, but I'm concerned by the
installer box appearing. I am using Windows XP Pro. I
recently had problems with Earthlink software and Norton,
and ultimately had to have a tech delete it (Earthlink)
from my registry and I installed a newer version of
Norton. Could this have messed something else up? Should
I reinstall my OS or Office programs, and if I do will I
lose any information?

- Windows XP >> Still a problem with files transfer...I am trying to use the files and settings transfer wizard, and
on the new computer I get the following message:
"The location that you specified does not contain stored information. Please

I can see the collected data with my eyes, so why does not the new pc?
I followed the steps as instructed, so what am I doing wrong? Any help would
be great.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Lan drops and erro 0xc0000017For some reason my windows xp pro (sp2) has started dropping all lan

I cant see any logs in the event log to suggest any major problems. Reboot

- Windows XP Network >> XP / 98 networking issueAnti virus programs sometimes limits the ability of
Windows 98 computers to see Windows XP users on a
Microsoft client network. You can try adjusting the level
of protection of the local network setting. Removing the
protection will surely allow you to see the XP computer
but you then should have a router to protect your
network. I disabled Zone alarm yesterday when I couldn't
see our new XP server. I have not yet tried to adjust the
settings on Zone but may not as we have a router that says
it blocks unauthorized access (emails may still be a
problem to be looked at).
Hope this helps the other postings with 98/XP issues.

- Windows XP Network >> LAN anomaly?I am having trouble sharing folders/files between two machines,
networked together via a router.
Both are WXP PRO SP2.
On machine 2, MyNetworkNeighborhood allows me to display & change
machine 1's C drive and its folders/files.
On machine 1, Machine 2's content is not displayed at all under
machine1's MyNetworkNeighborhood.
I have looked long & hard, but find no reason for this to be
happening. But what I have discovered is that I can 'MAP' a drive
letter on machine 1 to the C drive on machine 2, and access & change
machine 2's folders/files that way.
So why is it that I can access machine 2's folders/files on machine 1
by using its map function, but not through its MyNetworkNeighborhood?
I'm confused. Can anyone suggest where I might look to solve this
problem?
Thanks

- Windows XP Hardware >> HUGE Problem! Please help!A few days ago, my PC gave me a shutting down prompt and it turns itself
off.
Now, as long as the PC is plugged into the wall, my PC will boot up by
itself, starts up for 3 seconds and then shuts itself off. I was unable
to start the PC back up manually.
Then after 15 seconds, and it starts booting up by itself for a few
seconds and shuts off again. This keeps happening as long as it's
plugged in. I unplugged it for a few hours, but as soon as I plugged it
back in, it started booting up by itself again and shutting back down
continuously.
I replaced the power supply today, but nothing has changed. It is still
giving me the same symptoms.
Can anyone help me?

- Windows XP Update >> Updates were unable to be successfully installedMy computer is set to receive automatic updates, but I noticed a gold color
shield within my system tray indicating that "Updates are ready for your
computer" for Office 2003 Service Pack 2.
The updates go through the entire download, but in the end a blue pop-up
appears stating "Updates were unable to be successfully installed" indicating
that "The following updates were not installed: Office 2003 Service Pack 2".
I have used the Microsoft Update link on my computer and downloaded the
updates from the Updates page to no avail ... it fails to install.
Any solutions?
