- Windows XP Security >> You do not have sufficient privilegesHaving experienced the "You do not have sufficient privileges" message
with network connections and my new ATI graphics card (Catalyst control
center) and Windows update failure (error 0x80070005) I found the
following solution:
1) Boot in safe mode.
2) Login as administrator and create a new account with admin rights.
3) Reboot and login with the new account and check that the various
operations that were failing now work.
4) If all is working, delete the new account and try the same from the
existing admin account. All should be working fine.
I had tried the various solutions posted to these problems with no
effect.

- Windows XP >> Little HelpHey all,
Little problem i'm running into is the amount of time it takes from the
desktop to when I can dial out.
From boot to desktop is pretty quick, but I have to wait to dial out. My
system almost freezes until my norton firewall appears then I can go.
I have an amd 2400+, 512 mb ram, sympatico hs.
I have the network card set manually.
Running norton systemworks 2003 and personal firewall.
I've shut off quite a few services in msconfig.

- Windows XP Setup >> XP Pro Installation ProblemsHi, I was just recently upgrading my XP home edition to XP Pro on my IBM
PC...Anyways I get about half way through the installation process when I
receive a prompt saying that an existing driver (VGA i think) failed to pass
the XP logo test, now no matter which option i select the installation
process seems to crash and reboot the system. Now it wont allow me to do
anything cause it keeps rebooting the installation process and I don't want
to format the machine as i have important and sentimental data on it.... Can
anyone suggest how i can recover my disk, or overcome this problem?
- 6
- Windows XP >> Windows XP HomeI upgraded to subject OS and it has been performing very
well. Suddenly, every time I start to load, the disk
checker interrupts. I've looked at drive manager, in
control panel and all (3) hard drives are rated "healthy
and active". I've defragged the drives and tried
everything I know to correct this frustrating problem. I
would appreciate any help I can get.

- Windows XP Support >> update sp2.....NOTI just found out this new update is causing alot of problems on computers
that never had problems until this update was installed. I started haveing
problems with my cdrw/dvdrw drive right after installing SP2. On checking my
computer device manager showed everything was fine, but wouldn't recognize
some installation cd's or autorun..nothing worked to install this
software...until I uninstalled SP2 from my computer..now everything works
fine like it did before SP2 was installed...Hope this helps all of you
wondering what went wrong with my computer!!!

- Windows XP Support >> Windows Firewall 'appears' to close on connection to networkI have a wireless network to my PC (XP Pro SP2) and it works fine
But today I brought the PC downstairs and plugged it in with a network cable
to the router (D-Link DSL-G604T) and immediately the Security Centre pops up
with 'Your compter may be at risk' and shows the firewall as OFF so I click
for the Security Centre to enable and it says...
"the security center could not turn on windows firewall" and recommends
trying to turn it on myself through the Control Panel and Windows Firewall
I go to control Panel > Windows Firewall and it shows as ON ??!!
As soon as I unplug the network cable the problem goes away
Other PC on the network (also XP Pro SP2) works fine with cable plugged in
permanently

-= how and. why did it start? -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
The. harassment didn't start by itself, so someone must have been there at
the outset to give it. a firm push and set the "animals" after me. It looks
as if I was set up in June 1990,. and the timing indicates someone from
university was. responsible.
>One thing which has. been missing from this discussion is this simple
>prognosis: that maybe he is right. and that, despite his admitted
>mental condition, there really is a campaign against him. organised by
>now-influential ex-students of his. university.
In May or June 1990, Alan Freeman on Radio 1 read out a. letter from someone
who had known me for a few years, who wrote. of the one who "wore out his
welcome. with random precision" (from the Pink Floyd song). Freeman went on
to say to the writer "that's a hell of a. letter you wrote there". The
indication is strongly that people I had parted from. soon before nursed a
grudge against. me and were trying to cause trouble for me.
The suggestion is that Freeman might have. shown the letter to other people,
and things could have. snowballed from there. Right from the start the real
source. (security services presumed) didn't announce themselves as the
origin, but let the "talkers", the. radio DJs, believe that they were the
originators. Think about it; if you announce,. "we're MI5 and we have a
campaign against this bloke" then people might not go along with it;. but if
you. say, "everyone else is getting at this bloke because he 'deserves' it"
then people will join. in with fewer qualms.
>Why would "they" wish to assassinate. your character?
It's the classic case of hitting a cripple to prove you're stronger.. Why
would the security services. expend hundreds of thousands of pounds and more
than six years of manpower to. try to kill a British citizen? Because they
are motivated by people who knew me at university. and feel personal
animosity; because. they knew me to be emotionally weak, and it is in the
nature of bullies to prey on those known to be weak; and because. they can
rely on. the complicity of the establishment, which the security services
manipulate and derive funding from. This is England's biggest. humiliation
today, and the British security services are intent. on preventing their
humiliation. becoming reality by continuing their campaign of attempted
murder to suppress the truth. from becoming public.

- Windows XP Setup >> Transferring XP HomeI recently upgraded my laptop OS. It originally came with
XP home loaded, and I just installed a brand new full
version (not an upgrade) of XP-Pro to satisfy standards
set by my employer.
I would now like to transfer my XP home license and OS to
a new machine I will be receiving sometime this week.
How does one go about activating in this case?

- Windows XP >> Windows boot, fastdetect and COM port questionWe have a system here that will be a call accounting system. It will have
data from a PBX sent to a COM port even when the system is booting up. This
creates a problem under normal circumstances as Windows will try to install a
serial pointing device.
I have /fastdetect in the boot.ini file but the system is still trying to
install pointing devices. I have added the COM1,2,3 etc after fast detect and
still the same problem.
Basically I have done exactly what Microsoft said to do to prevent the
problems I am seeing.
So what is the real solution to this problem?

My suggestion is to purchase an external hard drive - It
is easy to back up and restore, and much better to back up
large files to.

Windows XP Network >> direct cable connection
I run a server, have 4 systems hoked onto a LAN. Recently
won a notebook running Windows 98 S.E. and am trying to
use a direct parralell connection from LPT1 to my Servers
LPT1 port. To no avail....I do know in answeer to your
questionm if you simpy have two computers, and are
runnning anything from Win2kPro up to Windows Server
2003m, and ONLY have TWO systems, the best way to tie
them together is through a Cat5 Crossover....you'll have
to install different protocols, like SPX/IPX to share
local files and such, but I was hoping someone could help
me out with my direct parralell connection from a Windows
XP Pro system, to a Windows 98 S.E. Notebook. Any help
would be appreciated....I am A+/Net+ and working on my
MCSE......Is it the OS (98)? Email me ack at

Either that or get a pair of 1000Mbps Ethernet cards, such
as Intel's "PRO/1000 MT desktop" adapters.

- Windows XP Support >> Windows XP Crash intermittentlyI have recently installed a new hard drive (after my old one failed - on Sony
Z1VA notebook computer), loaded appropriate drivers, and some new programs
(Kapersky 6.0, Acronis Disk Director, Windows Outlook 2003). I also have an
external hard drive installed when at home. I have suddenly begun to
experience the Blue Screen of Death when attempting to connect via wireless
at my local library to their Public WiFi service. I've never had this
problem before, and it does not occur at my home wireless network, with or
without connection to the external hard drive. It only happens when
connecting to the Public WiFi.
In looking over the Event log, I noticed the following Erroor Code that
seems to be associated with the crash event:
100000dl, parameter 1 02010405, parameter 2 00000002, parameter 3 00000000,
parameter 4 02010405
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is that is causing the system
crash? Thanks.

- Windows XP >> Sob story - help!I had aproblem with XP after years of trouble free running - just kept
getting the BSOD every time when booting. To cut a long story short, I
decided it must be some sort of corruption on the HDD, so I reinstalled XP
with a formatting of the c: partition.
However, even that gives the BSOD when I try to boot even though it
installed OK!
I've tried MEMTEST, and that looks OK.
The CPU temp is OK.
I have a RAID setup with a c: partition (system and reformatted) and d:
untouched from previous install.
All BIOS settings are at default, and basically nothing has changed from the
setup that was working perfectly for some time.
What could be happening? I'm tearing my hair out - especially as I've lost
some critical data!

- Windows XP Setup >> Manually Configuring Resource ControlI heard back from tech support for my motherboard in
regards to why I can't have both my AGP graphics card and
mass storage hard drive/ide controller working at the
same time. They suggested that I do one of the following:
1. move your controller card to different PCI slot and
try. (tried already)
2. configure Resource Control By MANUAL under Integrated
peripherals, you could assign the IRQ to any PCI cards on
your system.
3. upgrade your Operating System, eg. windows 2000 or
Windows XP. (I'm running WinXP already)
How do I do number 2?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Hardware >> keyboard driver for Sony VaioSince upgrading from Windows ME to XP Professional on my

Some one said I need a driver for XP from Sony. If that
is true, where do I get it?
Otherwise, what's the problem and how do I fix it?
