- Windows XP Support >> password Security settingDear All,
I hav Win2K3 domain network.
my PC has winXP O/s. that is member of domain of win2k3 server.
when i login as adimistrator of local PC it ask for password.
but i donot need password & so if i tried to change the password
"Nil" .
it shows an error that password shd be of 2 chr minimum.
but there is no server security policy applied there on DC for
Clients.
so i tried to change local security policy of my PC but into Account
policy\password policy when i click on minimun password length it
shows in disabled mode.
so i make my PC a member of workgroup.& after restarting it remain
showing the same disabled mode of all the security setting of password
policy.
but other then these policies[Account policy\password policy ] all
other policy I can change.
those are not disabled mode.
what is this problem.
thanx in advance

- Windows XP Basic >> Raid questionHi all.
I'm just back from a RAID 0 configuration.
I have a ASUS P4P800-SE as MB, P4 3.2 Ghz, last BIOS UPDATE, I have 2 HDD :
MAXTOR 6Y160M0 SATA, that I have configured as 1 "RAID 0" disk, the result
was terrible, sometime CHKDISK was starting by itself, and I have lost some
data so I'm back to use NORMAL disks.
I don't know if RAID 0 is really so instable (or this was only a problem of
mine) but I'd like to know which is the best (within a common system) RAID
configuration (0+1, 5, 10 ecc ecc)
I'd like also to know if someone else have had these kind of problem with
raid 0 config and this MB.

- Windows XP Setup >> sysprep ignoring computer nameHi all,
I have a major problem on our network. Almost all of our systems were build
using ghost. sysprep was not run as part of the image so there are errors
everywhere. I have been working on deploying sysprep via sms but I have one
hang up. I have a custom app that queries the existing hostname and inserts
it into the .inf file. This works just fine. After running sysprep though the
user is prompted for the computer name? Any answers as to why the computer
name is being ignored by sysprep? here is my .inf file:

- Windows XP Network >> Setup QuestionI was following instructions to setup a Win 2003 Server and they had me load
OS, setup DHCP, then setup AD and DNS (dcpromo). Is this the typical setp,
DHCP first then AD and DNS after?
Also how can I be sure DNS is working correctly, pinging a device on the
network using FQDN?

- Windows XP >> Can't see workgroup computers any moreRecently (within the past 2 weeks) I've lost my ability to see my workgroup
computers on 3 out of 4 computers on my home network. One computer can see
everything, but if I go to "My Network Places" on the other 3 computers, I
can't even see the workgroup "home". What makes this even more strange is
that if I manually type the name of my print server computer into the "add
printers" wizard, it finds it and adds the printer. So, all my computers can
print via my print server computer ------- it's just that "My Network Places"
seems to have stopped working on 3 of my 4 computers. On the computer that
it still works on, I can see all the other computers and access shared files.
I've checked that the Computer Browser, Server, and Workstation processes
are running on all 4 computers. Again, this hapened only over the last
couple of weeks. I know that there was a windows upgrade that was installed,
could this have caused the problem? ------ thanks in advance for your help.

- Windows XP >> Getting chkdsk to display during startup ?On one XP pc, whenever I enter "chkdsk c: /f" in the cmd box, I see
the chkdsk running at the next boot (prior to Windows xp loading).
On the other pc, I can enter the cmd, and get the question "run at
startup?", but I never SEE it when I reboot.
Is there some kind of tweak or reason it is not displaying?

Windows XP >> CPU usage reaches 100% maximum problem
My CPU usage maximizes at 100% when I am connected to the
net. I connect through an Ethernet card and a cable modem.
In the taskmanager, I see that 99% of CPU power is being
used by "services.exe" and "svchost.exe"! This leaves
practically no resources for me to use for any other
programs, including internet browsing. The result is that
all programs that I try to launch run at a bare minimum.
I have a Pentium 4 at 1.7ghz and 500mb of Rambus 800 RAM.
I thought that some hacker might be messing around with
my ports, so I tried to enable the Microsoft firewall on
my network adapter. I received an errotr message,
indicating access denied. I believe that this also has
something to do with the problem.
If I disconnect my modem before powering up the system,
the problem does not occur. Once the network adapter
recognizes the modem, the CPU problem begins again.
Since I would like to continue to use the internet, I
would appreciate any help or guidance that anyone might
have.

- Windows XP >> Quicklaunch Section of Toolbar GoneHi,
I'm running a new laptop with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1.
Sometimes when I reboot the Quicklaunch section of the taskbar is
missing and the 'Show Quick Launch' button becomes unchecked. This
seems to happen with the toolbar in both locked and unlocked states.
My system does have the proper folder containing the Quick Launch
shortcuts.
Can someone help me?
Thanks,

- Windows XP Setup >> Custom SetupIs there a way to customize installations of Windows XP so there is no user
interaction during the setup? Maybe something like you can do with the
Office
XP Custom Installation Wizard? The Custom Installation Wizard brings up all
avaliable installation options and you can choose the ones you want and it
creates a response file, you then run setup with the response file.
Thanks for any assistance.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Reformat & Clean Install WIN XP NTFS ~ How?I am accustomed to using FDISK and FORMAT to reformat a
hard drive in Windows 9x prior to doing a clean install.
What is the equivalent procedure for a HD that has the NTFS
version of Win XP installed on it? In other words, how do
you create a single new partition and format a drive for
Win XP NTFS?
I have not seen this discussed anywhere.
Thanks for any advice.

- Windows XP Network >> Error when mapping network drivesHallo,
My network has w98, w2k and wXP clients. I use windows nt 4.0 sp6 as domain
controller.
In the pdc logon scripts there are sentences that map network drivers as
follows:
NET USE O: /DELETE /YES
net use O: \\server1\folder1 /yes
Recently, I have changed that sentences for this ones:
NET USE O: /DELETE /YES
net use O: \\server2\folder1 /yes
when restart w98 and w2k clients map network dives correctly but wxp
sometimes map network drives to server1 and sometimes to server2.
I reviewed logon script in both pdc and bdc but there is no file contained
mappings instructions to server1.
I also reviewed DNS and WINS seaching any conflict with server1 and server2
but also seems to be good.
Why wxp are still mapping network drivers to server1 at logon??.
Thank you.

- Windows XP Security >> No user accounts in welcome screenHere's a puzzler: My daughter's laptop (Compaq Presario
2100 running Windows XP Home) no longer shows any user
accounts in the friendly welcome screen -- so there's no
way to log in. Tried CTL-ALR-DEL twice to get the login
dialog, but it doesn't accept her username/password.
So, I tried booting in safe mode to get the Administrator
account. Alas, there are no account icons in the friendly
welcome screen in safe mode either! Tried CTL-ALT-DEL from
safe mode and typed Administrator/blank for
username/password to no avail. Tried a variety of
combinations of Administrator and Guest (upper and lower
case, etc.) and guesses at the password.
Is it possible that all accounts are disabled (e.g.
someone tried hacking in with wrong password too many
times)??
Have already read Q297221, Q283198, Q292742, Q281798, etc.
Thanks in advance for your assistance. Remember that I
can't get past the login screen, so please don't suggest
anything that uses Start/Run, Control Panel, Regedit, etc.

- Windows XP Hardware >> ATI TV Wonder VE FreezingHey guys. I just got an ATI TV Wonder VE PCI capture card, and it causes my

pretty common problem as I've read a lot of people's complaints about it
online, but I have yet to find a solution.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
