- Windows XP Support >> Random Explorer Bar on DesktopHey there,
I have this random explorer bar on the left side of my screen that I can't
seem to get rid of. Also, on top of this the icons on my desktop can't be
moved either.
Whenever I mouse over or click on a desktop icon, the information of said
icon appears on the left, in the explorer bar, as if I were clicking on the
icon in My Computer or something. This link have a screenshot of what I'm
talking about.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

- Windows XP Support >> Windows XP Print Queue Retains and Reprints JobsThis week I installed Windows XP SP2. Printing is through an HP JetDirect
175X server
on the ethernet to an HP 3330 printer. Using Windows 98 everything worked
fine.
Now, printing is okay, but when printing is completed the job remains in the
print queue.
Then, if the computer is shut down and started, or restarted, all of the
jobs that were
done print again.
I am presently solving the problem by remembering (!) to manually delete all
of the print
jobs at the end of the day. But I suspect there is some configuration
option which I
cannot find which will take care of this. Anyone know what it is?
Thanks

- Windows XP Security >> Change Century Interpretation - XP home - Access 2000By default, all 2-digit year entries less than 30 (or about that) are
converted to 20th century (eg "30" --> "1930", ""25" --> "2025")
Would like to make cutoff around 1970-2069.
After much research, still unable to find method for changing this
characteristic.
Docs suggest using "group policy" which I have been unable to locate on my
system, which is, BTW, personal & standalone and I am only user and
administrator.
This may be an Office issue rather than an XP issue. If so, I apologize.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

- Windows XP Support >> Microsoft evaluation software will not install on XP SP2I have successfully downloaded, on separate occasions (more than one
month apart), both Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Beta, as well as
Microsoft Office Standard 2007 Trial.
Once downloaded, in both subsequent attempts to install either of
these, an "Installation Progress" window is displayed on my desktop
(containing a progress bar a little below the centerline of its
window).
But the progress bar never infills with progress. (During the entire
time of this absence of progress activity, my hard drive light never
blinks either.)
I can leave this "Installation Progress" window up for hours and
nothing infills into the bar.
It's happened with both of these downloads--2 of 2. To this day,
neither of these have been installed as a result.
If I get tired of seeing no installation activity after an
interminable amount of time, and then click on the [X] in the upper
right corner of the window, the "Installation Progress" window
responds with, "Are you sure you want to cancel setup?"
If I press <Yes>, the window never disappears.
What's going on here?
Thank you for any assistance.

- Windows XP Update >> W2k3 Standard SP1 Install Problems!I hope someone would be able to help me out here. I searched all over the net
for a solution and I just can't find a solution. Here is the problem: Windows
2003 Standard Server. I am trying to install SP1 on it. I downloaded fresh
copy twice. Each install fails. It goes though all the steps (backing up,
installing) then it's trying to start up services and install window just
goes away and then SP1 uninstalls itself. Once it uninstalled itself, it
tells me that
-------------------------------------------------------
Service Pack 1 installation did not complete.
Windows Server 2003 has been partially updated and may not work properly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Once rebooted, everything is working. Below is the log from SP install.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HELP! :( I spend about 14 hours total trying to fix this. I really need to
get my server updated but it's just frustrating. Microsoft doesn't provide
fix for this on their site and every fix that I found (which was not many)
doesn't help me out.
Also, I am logged in as administrator, and the server is stand alone server.
PS: I need to break up the log file because it';s too long.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Reading Floppies in XPI work in computer support at a college. I recently loaded
XP on all the Lab machines. Many students are now coming
into the office with their floppy disks, saying that they
can't access the info on their disks, they get the message
that the disk is not formatted. We'll try it on different
machines and on my machine - all of which are XP - same
thing on all of them. I never saw this problem when all
the machines had '98. I have a feeling this has something
to do with XP, but can find no reference to the issue on
Microsoft Support. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

- Windows XP >> Everything highlightsI work in an IT dept and we have an issue that comes up once in a while where
the computer acts like the shift key is stuck down. Basically if they click
on the desktop all icons get highlighted, if they click a specific icon all
icons above the one they click gets selected. If trying to open a word
document or other file, the full file list will get highlighted from the
start of the folder list to the file they clicked on. Then usually while this
happens they can either type normally like nothing is wrong, or they can't
type at all. Is there any settings or ideas out there? I've tried new
keyboards, disabling all accessibility and sticky key options...
