- Windows XP Network >> XP loosing network connectivityI have a number of XP system on a 2003 AD network, it's very common that a
few of these system loose all network access I.E. drive mappings, printer
etc.... When remapping these drives it prompts for user and password yet this
doesn't work, the event log states that the regestry for the user is opened
and can't close or write to it. I've looked high and low for an answer but
nothing and when I do find something there seems to be no resolution, I have
to constantly disable and enable the network connection sometimes once

- Windows XP Setup >> Xp won't boot upI installed windows xp on a Time computer I had that had windows 98
on. I formatted the drive and removed all partitions. On boot up all I
get now is "searching for boot record on ide-0. ok", and then it
hangs.
I tried the hard drive in another pc and there was no problem. It
seems as if the bios is trying to look for something that is not
there, something by Time perhaps.
Any ideas?
Thanx.

- Windows XP Hardware >> screen gone bananasI have a dell Dimension2350 2.8 ghz about 3 1/2 years old.
After a bit of flickering my screen suddenly reduced in width by about half.
ie. a quarter missing from either side which left a concave shaped(wider at
the top and bottom of the screen)with both left and right borders Black!
Everything else works as normal. Is it my graphics card?
If so, I have a Dimension3000(16 months old) at work in which i added a
matrox dual Graphics card a while back. So am I right in thinking that i
should be able to remove my original intel card fro the 3000 and put that
into the faulty 2350 with no ill effects to my 3000 mahcine?

Windows XP >> language bar
Hello,
Everytime I login the language bar is visible on the taskbar, I right
click/Toolbars/uncheck the Language bar.
I thought that removing once this bar would be permanent across reboots and
relogins.
Any ideas why the language bar is appearing again everytime?

Windows XP >> language bar
R-click on the little arrows in the language bar and choose to close it. You
may have to play with it a bit but, it will go away.

- Windows XP Security >> Delete user "Owner" ?Hi folks,
Brand new computer with XP-H preinstalled, and with initial
user by the name of "Owner".
I've set up proper user (and admin) accounts, and deleted
the user "Owner", but there's still a Owner directory in
DocumentsAndSettings.
Is it safe to delete this directory? And any Registry keys
pointing at it? (Hmm, I smell a SystemRestorePoint looming
<g>).
Thanks,
RAC

- Windows XP Support >> Xp user printing faultHi that's what happens:
After installed SP2 in Xp Home in a single Workstation
all users can't print using spool.
New jobs compare in the print queue few seconds then disapperar without
effect. Printing is available only sending job directly to printer
(unfortunately too slow)
*I' can't believe users can't print as usual*
I managed with permissions in spool folder and in regestry without any luck.
Please help in finding solution and understanding how spool works
This is a known problem Cari wrote many post saying it comes with norton but
i disinstalled withou resoults :
(Cari wrote:

Change it to Print Directly to Printer.)

- Windows XP Update >> Error 8007F00DEverytime I try to intstall Security Update for Windows XP (KB828741), it
keeps telling me that the installation failed. The error code is 8007F00D
and sometimes the error code is just F00D. I tried to install it from
automatic updates and it didnt work so I tried to install it from the Windows
Update website and thats when the error code changed to F00D.
Can someone help me please?

- Windows XP Security >> User Profile & Restart IssuesAfter a clean format & reinstall, XP Pro "forgot" things--
-for example, docs were missing my My Documents,
Bookmarks were being lost, IE & OLE settings going back
to default, etc. I typed them back in, and since then,
it was ok. Since then, it looks ok.
I checked the Event Viewer and noticed 4 consecutive
errors with a Red X next to "userenv" and a caution error
of the same nature. Is this related to this issue?
Also, a few times when I shut down, the system would
restart. I turned off auto-restart at error and saw a
stop error. I uninstalled Easy CD Creator 5 and the
issue happened once or twice more, then it was fine. I
put CD Creator back & once again ran the XP update, and
now it's fine (after a $35 call to Roxio...)
Are either of these issues just a fluke, or is there
perhaps something causing them? I spent 6 hours fixing
my system last night and would not like to do it again.
Thanks.

- Windows XP Setup >> System will not go into S3 StandbyI've done quite a bit of work researching this problem.
This is my last hope.
I have a brand new Intel 865PERL Motherboard with MCE XP
installed. The system includes an ATI 9600XT video card,
Hauppauge TV/FM. I have set the Bios to allow S3 standby
and even turn off ALL the USB devices when in standby. I
even found a application called Sleeper that forces
standby modes. It detects and can force the system into
S3 standby, but Windows Standby does not! Please help.

- Windows XP >> New XP Pro install is brittle?Re-installed XP Pro 2 days ago due to complete lock-up
after massive local power failure. (no, I do not have a
UPS) System came up and worked fine for some time but
started re-booting by itself after a time. System error
reports pointed to a device driver. ATI-Rage driver was
removed (had been installed from a CD) and replaced with
the one from Windows Update. Now system fails in the same
way and error reporting says the problem is under
investigation. Looking at the machine's own error list
returns a number of differing complaints the unit never
had before and I'm wondering if they really are problems
at all. The latest is a Bad Block error on my Creative
CD5233E CD/ROM drive. There was no disk in it at the time
and I was on-line when my screen just blacked out, as
usual, and re-booted. A check of Device Manager returned
a report of Functioning correctly for the drive. This is
just the latest of many. I'm thinking there is a
corruption somewhare. At times the Task Manager reports
100% CPU usage when nothing should be happening at all.
Usually the process that's doing this is: cidaemon.exe
but I have no earthly idea what this process does? Should
I just re-format and re-install XP? By the way, this
install was on a new Western Digital 30 gig drive.

I am aware of netsend, but that's command line isn't it?

- Windows XP >> What causes my computer to keep turning back on?I close down WinXP at night through the proper shutdown. All the lights
go off. But often during the night it switches itself back on. I have
checked all the obvious (to me) things like hibernate, BIOS settings
etc. But the computer is definitely off - not just sleeping, although
it is plugged in obviously when this happens and there is power to the
motherboard.
Anyone know of this happening and is it likely to be serious? The
motherboard (a cheap PCChips from Ebuyer) is only a few weeks old but I
really don't want to send it back unless it will get worse.

- Windows XP Security >> Firewall protectionI enabled my firewalls since I have a permenant
connection to the internet. I just allow server extension
file to be accessed (usually). I went back into these
setting recently and one had been disabled and the other
had a bunch of new selections with ip addresses that look
like monitor drivers and outlook accesses. I have had
other unusual problems as well. Any thought on this?

- Windows XP Network >> IE Hijacked! My Internet explorer has been hijacked such that whenever I open it I get redirected. It also hampers my ability to surf. I already have "Spyhunter" installed but it hasn't fixed the problem, any ideas how I can remove this unwelcome guest on my PC?
