- Windows XP >> Windows Picture and Fax Viewer problemWhen tryign to open images using the built in 'Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer' I receive the following error:
Windows cannot find 'C:\My Images.jpg'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button,
and then click Search.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I've gone into the file associations and
associated jpg image to another program, then back to the viewer and it
still gives me the error. This just started happeneing yesterday.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> cleanmgr.exe is hangingA Puzzler:
Whenever I run the Disk Cleanup utility (cleanmgr.exe)
with my XP Home system, the initial screen never gets
past a few bars in the "scanning: compress old files"
stage.
Cancelling out does not end the process - I must do this
manually in Task Manager.
It just uses up memory and MEGA CPU power.
Nothing on Emachine's site.
Any ideas????????
OS: XP Home, SP1.
machine: Emachines W2785
processor: Athlon XP 2700+
Processor Speed: 2.16GHz
RAM: 480 MB
Many thanks!!

- Windows XP >> time stamps on floppy drive files...The modified times on my files change when I copy them
from the hard drive to the floppy using the xcopy command
in a batch program. The times are about 2 seconds later
on the floppy drive than they were on the hard drive.
This creates havoc with file backup schemes. The files
in my destination drive(floppy drive) now appear to have
been modified at a later time than the files in my source
drive(hard drive) from which I copied them. I need the
files in my destination drive to be in synch, to the
second, with the files in my source drive.
Any ideas on a fix or a workaround will be most helpful.

- Windows XP Network >> Can't browse yo my other PCs after a network changeHistory: I hav a home network setup with 5 or so computers. All are running
XP Pro with one laptop running VIsta Home. I have them all setup on the same
Workgroup and have always been able to browse around to the folders I have
shared with no trouble.
Cause: Last weekend my main router died so I replaced it. THe new router
used a different IP set then my old one so now everything has a new IP
address. Everything else is the same.
Problem: One of the PCs cannot browse to any of the others and none of them
can browse to it. I can go to DOS and ping the other PCs by name or by IP,
but when I try to do a \\name\share or \\IP\share to view it, I get the No
such PC error. Also when I go into the network neighborhood, entire network,
workgroup, it hangs for a long time and eventually comes back showing nothing.
I can't figure out what is causing this and am out of ideas. Can anyone
shed some light on this for me? Others have told me I'm screwed unless I
rebuild (which I don't want to do) but there has to be some sort of solution.
If you need more info, let me know.
Thanks!!

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Problems with exported video colorI'm having a problem with the color of an exported video. See an example
picture at:
http://www.hikinghomeschoolers.org/Family%20Pictures/DistortedVideo.png
I encoded a video from an analog camera using a Hauppauge capture card to an
uncompressed WMV file using Windows Media Encoder and then imported this file
into WMM on Vista. The video imported into WMM and plays fine there, but
after I publish the video I get this result upon playback. The title screen
WMM inserted looks good, but the video is all "pinkish".
Any hints?

- Windows XP Setup >> Windows XP Setup FreezeI have recently changed the motherboard in one of my computer systems at my
workplace. The machines in the office all use identical components, accept
the new motherboard. This of course required me to reinstall windows because
it was a substantial hardware change. The computer boots from the Windows CD,
inspects the hardware, enters setup and begins loading the drivers. Then
before it even gets to the screen where it asks if you want to recover or
install windows, it locks up. Right when it says "SEtup is Starting Windows".
The first time i booted from the CD it got past this point and it allowed me
to format the drive and then reboot, which would then allow me to install
windows. Since then it has locked up everytime. I have tried swapping out
hard drives, the CD-ROM drive, and just about evetything else accept the CPU.
I even tried to run setup with the same CD on several other computers, and it
worked everytime on those. What could be the cause of this problem? I am at a
complete loss as I have been working on this for days.

This scanner has been working fine for over a year, and no

Anyone with the same problem, and possible solutions?
I went to HP and downloaded their XP drivers, but they
will not work either.
Thanks

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Windows Vista / XPHello all,
I have researched back through earlier posts, and none I saw revealed the
question I need.
I have my Desktop pc, and for Xmas, gave a laptop pc with Vista installed.
Unfortuntlly, the "group sale" (pc, printer, router) was great to have, it
came loaded with a minimum of software.
She is needing a word processing program.
From my pc, I have the Works Suite (2004), along with many others.
Can software for XP be used for Vista ??
By the way, I need a new keyboard ... this one misspells terribly ...
Thanks all ....

- Windows XP Support >> Weird beeping from inside notebookHi there,
I get weird beeping noises from my IBM T23 (PIIIM, 1.2GHz) - but only
when certain applications are loaded. I noticed the beeps from under
the left palmrest when one or more of the following apps are loaded,
even when in the background and completely idle:
- Trillian or Skype
- Flash-enabled websites
- Windows Media Player
No beeping with IE, Office, Movie Maker, Mozilla
I'm running XP Pro SP2. Someone suggested that this might be
SP2-related. I will further investigate this with a clean install
without SP2.
When Speedstep is set to "Adaptive", the beeping is related to any
activity on the laptop, i.e. moving windows, clicking a link in my
browser etc. loudens the beeping.
The beeping is more obvious when running on AC, as the CPU runs faster.
On the slow and very slow setting, it is more silent.
What could that be? It doesn't seem to come from the speakers,
attaching headphones or muting them doesnt help.
You can follow the same issue here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=7563
Any help would be greatly appreciated

- Windows XP Hardware >> device driver for mustek scannerI have windows xp home edition. After disconnecting my
scanner for some reason weeks ago, i now find i cannot
reinstall it. I am using a usb port and each time i plug

the " Paramount is incorrect". I have managed to dissable
the driver but when inserting cd to install again i still
get the paramount is incorrect. I know i must sound an

to install a cd rewriter all on my own. Which has been
working great for 6 months now.
