Well, in the meanwhile I found some additional discussion threads and
was able to individually download and install 2 of the 3 updates.
However, the Windows Installer v.3.1 is not one of them. I have tried
booting in Safe Mode, as well, as when I first tried when booted
normally, I received a message that said Access denied (I am in
administrator mode and have administrator privileges). I received the
same message in Safe Mode.
The number is KB893803v2
Any suggestions?
Thanks

- Windows XP Network >> XP networking problem - "could not open http://......"I have 1 PC and 2 laptops networked at home using a wireless network. All are
running XP SP2.
My files are all stored on PC and Laptop 1 can see and share these files ok.
Laptop 2 can see shared c:drive but when opening files , always get the error
"Could not open http://(PCname)/c/(filename)" and then the file opens in the
application. When trying to save back to the PC , i can't.
I can create new files on the PC c drive from my laptop, and I can open and
save non Microsoft files e.g Adobe.
I thought it might be my security settings so I temporarily turned these all
off - no joy.
I get the same error if I browse to the file in Windows explorer and use the
"open with" command as I do if I open directly in the application.
Is there a setting which needs to be changed ?

- Windows XP Support >> I accidentally renamed my CD-ROM drives...I recently purchased one of those Sandisk multicard readers, and I wanted to
name the new drive letters based on the type of card the drive accepted. In
the process, I accidentally re-named my CD-Rom drives. I think at the time,
there was media in the drive, which allowed me to do the rename. Since then,

- Windows XP >> Mouse Icon ProblemHello Everybody,
First, I checked out the archives but could find nothing on this particular
problem; thus, I would be grateful for any help on the following problem:
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I reinstalled a Kensington Wireless
Mouse with accompanying USB receiver. When I moved the receiver to another
port, the mouse icon (please excuse the lack of specific terminology) then
added the following icons < <> > (which are solid black). I have a pencil in
hand icon. Directly underneath it is this black triangle pointing right, a
black diamond, and then a black triangle pointing right. I uninstalled the
kensington drivers and the problem still remains when using the Synaptic
labtop mouse or the Toshiba wired notebook mouse. I 've gone to the Control
panel, mouse pointer tab and even the Device Manager. The mouse works fine
as far as movement, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the additional
icon that moves with the hand. Does anyone know what I might have done
wrong/accidently and how I can correct it. Bonus question: What purpose
does this attached icon serves? Again, thank you for any help you might have

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Problem with Check DiskHi
Iam using Windows XP operating system. The operating
System is updated with windows XP service pack (Feb 2004).
The problem Iam having is when I give my drive C: for
a "Check Disk operation" (ie the disk consistency
check). It starts "verifying files and folders" operation.
But when it comes at 69% of completion it shows following
error message
"Error in reading folder (null) "
and abruptly terminates the operation, continues with
starting up Windows.
Iam only using the tools that comes with the operating
system itself . My Os is loaded in Drive C.
I have also run the scandisk.exe from a Windows 98
bootable CD.Although it has found one error and fixed it
but still it doesnt practically make any difference.
Because of this persistance problem the check disk utility
get activated everytime when I start up windows.
It will be nice if someone can tell me the possible
solution.
Thanking You
