- Windows XP Network >> Accessing pc over network is deniedI have a computer running XP Pro. When I try to access
this computer from another computer on the network I get
prompted for a user name and password, I enter the user
name a password and access is denied. I have tried using
the Administrator user and password and I am still denied.
The XP pc can access shared files from other computer but
other computers can not access it. I was accessing files
from the XP pc for about 3 month and this problem just
accrued last week. I have scanned for viruses and to my
knowledge no updates or critical changes have been made to
the pc. File sharing is enabled.
Any ideas?
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Takes forever to shut down.I'm running Windows XP Home SP2 and have all the latest updates. DOTNET
runtime 1.1.4322.2032 SP1 and 2.0.50727.42 RTM (Visual Studio.NET 2005
RTM / SQL Server 2005 RTM) are both installed. I'm also running ADO
Database Runtime v.2.81.1128.0 and Internet Explorer v.7.0.6000.16441.
I did have .NET 3 installed, but removed it.
The problem is that my computer frequently takes forever to shut down.
I'll tell it to "Turn Off" and walk away, then come back minutes later
and it's still stuck in the "Saving your setttings" mode. Eventually, it
turns off but the time required for it to do this is totally
unacceptable. In fact, I often get P.O.ed and out of frustration, hold
in the power button until it goes off. This has never hurt anything to
this point, but probably will screw up some files at some point.
Note that my problem is NOT that the computer reboots when I want it to
shut down. The problem is that the computer takes an extremely prolonged
amount of time to shut down.
I've Googled around and found several suggestions like the ones at this
site:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1590&page=32
but none of them worked.
I am not running Roxio Easy CD creator of any kind and since a total
wipe and reinstall of my hard drive, never have.
Although I'm running an NVidia based video card, I'm not running the
Nvidia Driver Helper Service.
I have disabled Terminal Services.
I tried installing and running (it autoruns in the background) the
Microsoft User Profile Hive Cleanup Service:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en
or if you prefer:
http://tinyurl.com/2h3yl
and although it helps, what it does is to speed up the shutdown time
consistently but it still takes longer to shut down than I want and does
so every time. At least before, the computer would shut off quickly once
in a while. As a result, I have removed UPHCS and now am hoping that
somebody in this group can help me figure out what the problem is.
By the way, I'm not the only person having this problem. Ever since
Vista came out, I've noticed that more and more of my friends and family
members who run XP (Pro OR Home) are having the same problem.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
TIA.

- Windows XP Support >> Hard Drive QuestionI'm running XP pro and I've added two SATA drives to the system for use as
source drives for video production. I'm using the Disk Manager (for the
first time) to format the drives and I know I need to format the drives at

drives, is this also correct for optimal performance? I don't want to set up
a RAID solution, I need each video drive to operate independently so I can
run two shifts on the editor.

Sharon
Post a copy of the full Error Report from Event Viewer.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer.
Now start your
message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will
paste the
info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the
message. Make
sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Open the Services applet (Strat | Control Panel | Administrative Tools |
Services)
and scroll throught the list of services till you find WDM listsing.
Double click it, in it's Properties window select the Dependencies Tab.
Review the Services listed in the top window, making sure to click all +'s
to view the entire list.
Compare the items listed in the Dependencies window to services listed in
the Services Applet.
and make sure they are set as Manual or Automatic.
If they're all already set as manual or Automatic, then set them for
Automatic.
And start any that are stopped.

the search always starts with the Wikipedea definition of S

- Windows XP Network >> JIT DebuggingID3 Tag-It, and ID3 labeling program was working well then something changed
and Microsoft .NET Framework began giving the warning that the program was
trying to perform and operation not allowed and needed a SecurityException.
In the details MS .NET Framework suggested to enable JIT Debugging.
"To enable just in time (JIT) debugging the config file for this application
or machine (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the
system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with
debugging enabled."
"For example:
</configuration>
<system.windows.forms jit Debugging="true/>
</configuration>"
"When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the
JIT debugger registered on the machine rather that being handled by this
dialog."
I did get the jit Debugging="true" done, which apparently didn't help.
I tried to read what Microsoft.com had about JIT Debugging in the help
section here, but it's just way too complicated.
1. "The application must be compiled with debugging enabled." Is it
referring to the ID3 Tag-It program I was trying to run? Can you just take a
program and compile it to enable debugging?
2. I now get the message that there is no JIT debugger registered. How do
you register a debugging program? Where do you get the debugger. I think
one debugger is associated with Visual Basic.
JIT Debugging must be pretty complicated. The various internet forums don't
seem to know what's going on. Could someone offer a not too technical
explanation about what is going on and maybe baby step me through a solution
to register and enable JIT Debugging? Thanks

- Windows XP Setup >> My documents copied to second hard driveHi,
Last week I found my hard drive quickly failing and I was too dumb to have
backups.
I went out & bought two hard drives. Installed one of the new ones as a
slave and copied everything on my failing C: to the new drive (F:).
I then replaced the failed C: with a new drive and installed windows xp home
on that one. Upgraded to SP2 and all the other updates that were suggested.
When I try to move the F:\my documents folder (this is the copy from the
failed drive) onto my new C: I get a "Can't access. Check if drive write
protected or full" error message. I can't open any of the documents or
pictures either. I can't copy them from the old F:\ my doc folder to any
other place on the F:. Basically I can't do anything with them but I'm not
convinced they're corrupted. I think it has something to do with being in My
docs and the fact that I no longer boot windows from that drive.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian

- Windows XP Setup >> Repair Install> Lost Documents and SettingsA friend's computer was not booting into Windows, so I ran chkdsk from the
recovery console, restored NTFS.SYS from the CD. (as it was not found on
startup) Windows got to the end of the startup logo, then rebooted. I
resorted to attempting a Repair Install from the CD, not realizing that there
is a potential for data loss in the Documents and Settings directory. I've
done repair installs on my own systems in the past without any problems.
Everything went smoothly until the system booted up, I logged in, and
discovered that all of the important files I was trying to preserve are gone.
Windows recreated all of the users, but everything inside their home
directories is the installation default. The start menu has also been
reverted to the installation default (obviously as it is in the All Users
directory) Has anyone had experience recovering this data in any way? Help!
Thanks,

- Windows XP Setup >> What could my problem be?I don't know much about computers, what could the

batteries in mouse, this happens at least once a day, I

Would this be a problem with the software or the computer
