- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Problem!!!Please help me! Everytime that I attempt to open a
programme linked with Windows XP the message 'preparing
to install' etc. comes up on screen. If I press cancel it
remains and when it finally realises that there is a
problem installing it tells me that the programme I am
trying to install is on a removable disk and 'please
insert the Microsoft Office XP disk' of which I don't
(and never have) had! How do I get rid of this annoying
message? I think it started after I downloaded Kazaa onto
my computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

- Windows XP >> Graphics card upgrade questionNot sure this is the best place to ask but....
The graphics card in my 5 year old WinXP PC has died. If I install a more
modern graphics card will I have problems with the old drivers preventing XP
producing a display? ..or will XP detect the incompatible card and default
nicely back to VGA and allow me to install new drivers ?
It was a Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4400 and now it's smoke. I've actually found
someone with a nearly identical Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4400 for sale but they
want nearly £70 for it.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Help with scrolling creditsThis is the first time using WMM2 and after getting my video imported I
decided to make some credits but soon reliazed a draw back. The credit
animation I want to use is the Scroll, Up Stacked. What I am needing to do
is get a list of people who are all in one group listed in the credits but
when I enter in the text there is a large gap between the members names. Let
me give you a example.
I want to add a group named Committe Members and have 7 different names
listed. The credit title page where you can enter in the information is
layed out like a spread sheet with two columns. I entered in "Committe
Members" on the left hand column and on the right side column I entered in
the first member (John for this example.) I then entered the second member
on the line below John (row 2 right side column) and lets use Mary for this
one. The result looks like this
Committe Members
John
Mary
But what I want it to do is look like this
Committe Members
John
Mary
I can't seem to figure out how to do this or if it is even a option. I have
tried to do a CTRL-Enter as in most cases this lets you enter a line break
when enter is mapped do a different function but this does nothing.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> KB826942 locking up mutiple wireless routersI have found that after applying KB826942 to my Win XP pro system, my
wireless routers are locking up about every 30 minutes.
I have had this problem on both a USR 8022 wireless router and an SMC 7004
VWBR router (both running latest microcode) using both a Cisco 350 wireless
adapter and a USR 2216 wireless adapter.
I have the routers set to use 128 bit WEP with open authentication.
Removing this fix has stopped the problem and I am able to recreate it on
two different machines. How do I notify Microsoft of the issue with this
fix?

- Windows XP Network >> Copying SettingsDoes anyone know if you have a network of mixed OS's, say WinXP home, WinXP
Pro and Win9x and you are trying to move on to all WinXP machines and make
redundant the Win9x machines. Say you have one WinXP with a good setup, can
you backup the settings and transfer them to the rest of the WinXP home
machines so that they are all equal. I realise that you would have to
rename the rest of the machines before you re-connect to the network.
Does that make any sense??

- Windows XP Setup >> move files from 98se sys to new XP sysSubject: move files from 98se sys to new xp os
I am setting up a new home pc with Win XP. My old system
ran Win 98se. I would like to move some old files from
98se system to new PC that will run XP. I was hoping to
install XP on my new, clean HD as a master and then slave
my old HD (with the 98se), and then just transfer the data
that I wanted to keep. Can I have a master drive with XP
installed and a slave with 98se? Will the new system look
at the 98se reg/boot files at startup or will the startup
only process the reg/boot info from the master? Would
this be treated like a second partition? If the old HD
was a bootable drive, will it still have to be recognized
as bootable? If I want to leave the old drive in the new
system for data only, are there still minimum "system"
files that will need to be kept or could I keep just
the "My documents" folder? Thanks.

- Windows XP Hardware >> can't find IDE drive to install XPHi there,
I installed a new Asus P5LD2-VM and I have the CD Rom hooked up to the
secondary red controller.
The IDE hard drive is connected to the primary blue (80 pin) controller but
when the XP CD boots up, it says it can't find a hard drive.
At the BIOS, it lists the hard drive as being there, but yet the XP install
comes up with it saying that it can't find the hard drive.
I know this board has SATA connectors on it, but I'd like to be able to use
the IDE hard drive as the boot drive.
Any ideas??

- Windows XP Security >> How to change the firewall settingHi,
I have two questions:
1. There are two places in XP that control File and Printer sharing. One is
in the properties of Local Area Connection, and the other one is in Firewall
setting. Which one takes effect?
2. After I install Windows XP, the file and printer sharing in firewall
under Exceptions tab is unselected by default. How can I set all computers in
my domain with file and printer sharing? Using Group Policy? How to?
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

- Windows XP Setup >> Sound recorder problemI installed a new sound card because my onboard sound chip was poor. The new
card is Audio Extreme 5.1 (two-speaker setup at present) and works fine with
CDs, MP3s, streaming audio etc.
However I can not get Sound Recorder to detect any sound at all. I have
Audacity but that doesn't detect any sound either. I have checked that
nothing is set on 'mute' and that mixer defaults are OK but still nothing.
Could it be that Sound Recorder / Audacity are still 'looking' at the old
sound chip? If so how can I persuade them to see my new card? The old chip
does not appear in the list on Device manager.

- Windows XP Setup >> ie7 on a new deployed machine automatic settings?I am deploying a bunch of new machines running XP. I use WDS to do the
capture and deployment. It all works great. The one issue that bothers me
is this. On IE 7, when a new user logs into the computer. They get that
Microsoft default screen asking to choose settings, etc. I don't want it to
do that, plus I want a specific web page for any user logging in to teh
machine, without me having to login as them and setting up the default web
page etc. What's the best way to accomplish this?

- Windows XP Security >> Changing Windows XP Professional Operating System PasswordI have a computer that I would like to give to my daughter. It is password
protected at start-up - not user password. Before I get to Windows XP it
asks me for a password. I have to type in the password in order to get into
XP and the user/adminstrator passwords. Does anyone have any idea how to
change this password on start-up or to delete it all together. This was a
business machine and would not like to give out this password.

- Windows XP Hardware >> USB flash drive issueSeems like lots of people have issues with flash drives. I
have a Lexar pen drive that works just like I want, but a
storix axis one doesn't. At work, XP home formatted the
drive, and I can read or write to it fine there. It shows
up assigned to drive letter E. At home, when I plug it in,
device manager sees it correctly, and says there are no
hardware problems. Win Explorer on the other hand, clocks
for about 3-5 minutes (seems to hang), and will not let me
touch the drive letter, although it shows as assigned to
F. If I force my way through and wait long enough, it says
the drive is corrupt. The manufacturer's site has no
support for it, doesn't respond to email, etc.
