- Windows XP Basic >> Scheduled jobsHi ng
I have got a job on a network drive (a database mdb) which should be
activated every night. I have made a scheduled task - where I use my own
username and password on a normal computer. This works fine. But this
solution requires that I am logged on to the computer. I would like a
solution where no one needs to be logged on - as long as the computer is not
shut down, user is only logged off.
I am just a regular user - I am not an administrator. I have read something
about using the AT command but I am not sure how to do that.
My job should run at 05:00 am every day and should activate MyDatabase.mdb.
Can anyone help?
TIA

- Windows XP >> Desperately need help with no-boot problem.(I apologize for the cross post: pretty desperate here)
Hi!
I ran into some trouble yesterday. I rebooted my machine after
installing a program (disclaimer, I have no idea if the new program is
to blame since the machine has been running for a while - in fact, I
suspect the new application has nothing to do with this) and it freezes
at the WindowsXP Welcome screen (with the white status indicator at the
bottom).
The system is WindowsXP Home, SP1.
Pentium IV 1.8GHZ
Asus P4PE
Lot's of hardware (2 TV tuners, PCI Serical Port card, Modem, ATI AIW
7500, ebcam, NIC, Sound)
I'm pretty sure the freeze occurs when a piece of hardware gets touched.
I can boot to Safe mode. VGA mode won't load.
Here's what I've tried:
- Restoring the system to a known good config. No good.
- Obviously rebooting in different modes, etc., turned the machne off
for the night. No good.
- Used the Repair tool on the WindowsXP disk, i.e., went through the
entire setup and reinstalled all drivers. No good. (note: the machine
froze twice while installing devices. I removed the modem, serial port
card and disabled the onboard network and sounds cards and it finished
the setup, but it still freezes on normal boot, even without those items
installed).
- Removed all uneccesary hardware. No good.
- Wanted to remove the possibly offending piece of software, but no
uninstall program, not even listed under Remove Application in Control
Panel.
I'm pretty much at a loss here. It will literally take me days to set
this system up again. It's an HTPC with so much lovinh tender care it
will break my heart to have to start over. *ANY* help aon other things
to try is welcome.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi Xinyin,
>> After move my documents to another place
Which method did you use to move the "My Documents" folder. For instance, if
you've relocated them to a removable drive, and if the removable drives are
inaccessible by Windows (during startup), the links will remain missing in
the Start menu.

I just right clicked the my documents on the start menu and move it to
another logic disk. Not a removable disk, just the same disk.
Another problem doubts me is that when i restarted it today, my music
appears on the start menu but there are TWO folder named my music appeared in
my documents folder. When i directed to the folder by the dir command, there
is only ONE item named my music.
i'm sure it's not the cause of the virus or malicious softwares.

Okie. Can you verify the shell folder paths in the registry? The default
values are given here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm
Check the paths for My Documents, My Music and My Pictures.

i think some registry information must be lost about my documents
when i save a file in the save as window, the place bar does not contain my
documents.
Even i use tweak-ui to make a placebar manually(my documents selected), it
does not appear.

i think some registry information must be lost about my documents
when i save a file in the save as window, the place bar does not contain my
documents.
Even i use tweak-ui to make a placebar manually(my documents selected), it
does not appear.

- Windows XP >> very slow(almost none) performance from windows explorerI had some spyware/adware and a few virus that cleaned off
my machine with Lavasoft Adware and Norton antivirus. After
the removal the spyware/adware and the viruses, my system
still runs very slow. When I try to open my computer it
takes several minutes for it to open. Normally just a few
seconds. Same problem with control panel and internet
explorer.
What can I do to repair/fix windows explorer?
thanks for any help

- Windows XP Hardware >> Strangeneww with new USB key and password/mouse comboHi,
I have XP Pro and have used a normal kb and mouse.
I decided to buy a USB MS fingerprint/mouse combo and a USB MS kb. I also have
a USB2 PCI card.
Now when I cold boot, it stays at the MS XP choice black screen after the bios
and doesn't act to the kboured or mouse.
It is not until I re connect the old mouse and old PS2 kb that it gets past
this screen and loads XP. I can then take them off and use the USB ones.
This seems rather a crazy way to do it and MS could not have this in plan.
So, what am I doing wrong to have this happen.
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Lost Word, Excel, Access, PowerpointHello, Recently I had a Windows Installer problem and got help from this
forum to install the Windows Installer cleanup utility. Upon reading about
it, it confirmed that running the process won't delete progress, rather it
will delete the installer configurations(?) from the program. I ran this
process and it worked, the error message I kept getting disappeared.
I have just noticed that I have lost Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access,
Outlook. I get the message 'this action is only valid for products that are
installed' when I click on the program from the start menu.
I still seem to have all the other programs, it is just these Microsoft
programs I am missing. How do I reinstall them, can I just reinstall those
programs only from my Windows XP Professional disc? Or do I have to do a full
back up and restore all files and programs before I do this?
Thank you in advance.

- Windows XP >> Lost data on second hddI just reformatted my hard drive and now I cant access my
second hard drive which is where 3 years of work,
downloading, game saves, photos and everything else ive
gathered up is. When I double click the drive is
says "disk not formatted" then "would you like to format
now".
Please could someone tell me how to get to the files on
this drive again. It was called "back up" now its
labelled "F". There must be a way to get my files back,
please help.
I installed partition magic 7 and it can see the drive as
it was, named "back up" and the size etc is correct. I
had linux installed on this drive too maybe thats whats
causing the trouble.
Thanks for any help.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Driver enabled but not yet startedNo sound after installing XP SP2. uninstalled, reinstalled. After searching
the net this seems to be a common problem I was directed to the plug & play
software emulator under system devices. It has the error message Windows
cannot load driver driver code 31. This I also uninstalled and reinstalled.
also tried a fix I found that involved deleting a line from allmachine. did
not work. So I did a clean install of XP yeah sound. Tried SP2 again once
again no sound and the same error messages. Contacted micosoft (useless) All
drivers are updated and XP Compliant. Everything points 2 the software
emulator (developed by microsoft) would greatly aprreciate some advice I have
a couple of programs that require the SP2 patch.

- Windows XP Support >> Chinese verson XP change to englishI just started working in China. I was just supplied with an IBM R52 laptop.
The laptop has a Chinese version of windows, and unfortuneatly I can not read
chinese. All of the menus etc are in chinese.
Is it possible to switch the language for XP? Can anyone suggest how I go
about resolving this issue?
Thank you very much,

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Screen Capture QualitySo if I am editing a DV-AVI that has a resolution of 720 x 480, how come
when I do frame capture in MM2 it captures a measly 320x240 resolution? Is
there a way to capture at a higher resolution?
Thanks,
Curt.

- Windows XP Support >> Some programs won't startRecently, programs have refused to start when clicking on their icons.
When I double click, either nothing happens or the program's window
opens for a millisecond and closes again. CTRL-ALT-DEL shows a window
with no programs running, so they are not running invisible somehow. If
I go to the Command Prompt (DOS?) and navigate to the program's
directory and type in the command string (found in the "Properties"
window of the Windows icon) to start the program, it starts - in
Windows - as it should.
Two programs specifically that do this are ACDSee 4.0 and Epsilon 9.0.
Others have behaved the same way but I just can't remember them
specifically.
I have another XP system and these same programs start fine from
Windows - so there is a setting wrong on the first computer. I just
can't figure out what.

- Windows XP Setup >> Acronis VS symantec ghostHi,
I have been trialling Acronis recently as an imaging and image deploy
software, but wondering what others opinions is on this or do people
recommend symantec ghost or something else?
Ideally I want the software to be cheap and easy to install and
maintain.
Any advice is appreciated.
