- Windows XP Setup >> Activation on Several ComputersI recently bought a copy (only one because of the
extremely high cost) of XP Professional with the view of
installing on my three home computers which I have already
upgraded hardware wise. Now I find that some sort of
activation is requuired after installation. This
activation seems as if it will limit installation of my
one copy of XP Pro to one computer.
What steps can I take in order to install my copy of SP
Pro on my three home computers?
Thanks for any advice.

The cartoons were cute, overdrawn, heavy on stroke lines and primary=20

I want to say the cartoons appeared with Windows 95... but I am not =

Any help is greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP >> Hiden folders in temporary internet files folderSome portions of XP Pro (Eg. Explorer, Search for files) ignore the folders
in the temporary internet files folder. There is no indication that there
are any folders there. Using the command prompt to set the current directory
to the temporary internet files folder you can see the hidden folders. All
relevant folder options controlling hiding files and folders, hiding
protected operating system files, etc., have been set to show everything
possible.
Questions: Is there a way to control this behavior? If something is there, I
want to see it. Are there other folders that get this special treatment?

stored and how do I clear it?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Puzzling USB Flash Drive BehaviorHi and thank you for reading.
I have twp XP computers and 4 Flash drives.
Computer A is my employers; a Dell Lattitute and is assigned to a domain, XP
Pro.
Computer B is my wife's, a HP Media Center, new in December 2005, XP Media.
We shasre a router at home; but the PCs don't share files, etc. because of
my employers security issues. That's fine: we share on the necessary data on
USB 2.0 flash memory sticks.
Both computers have rear (full 2.0) USB ports, from ports (who knows?) and
powered Belkin 7 port hubs.
Flash Drive 1 is generic, USB 2.0, holds our Quicken files, works on both
PCs, both powered hubs no problem. Is assigned drive letter Q on both
machines. (somestimes I pay the bills, sometime she does.)
Flash Drive 2 is generic, USB 2.0, holds our Filemaker Pro addressbooks.
Great for Chistmas cards. Is assigned drive letter X on both machines.
Flash Drive 3 is new. USB 2.0. PNY 512K. Works fine on my Dell. Both in
real ports and on the hub. Is assigned drive letter T on the Dell.
Flash Drive 4 is new. USB 2.0. Sony 128K. Works fine on my Dell. Both in
real ports and on the hub. Is assigned drive letter Y on the Dell.
Problem: Same for both Flash Drive 3 and 4, but not 1 and 2: 1and 2 work
fine on the HP.
* The HP with XP Media recognizes and identifies the PNY and Sony Flash
drives correctly, but seeks and fails to find a driver for them (although
drive 1 and 2 are using the USB 2 Mass Storage diver.) It cannot find a
driver in D:\i386, where Windows was placed by HP, nor on E:\i386, the
Windows CD, nor anywhere else I send it to look.
* I have located Win98 drivers for both drives, but am reluctant to try to
install them.
* There are tons of other USB peripherals attached and working fine:
scanner, Wacom tablet, two printers, Palm synch, cameras, wireless keyboard &
mouse, bluethooth adaptor et cetera.
* I have tried them carefully in the rear ports, the from ports, and the
powered hub. Same result.
* Both show the yellow circle, not under USB controllers, but, I think,
under storage devices or USB devices in the Device manager. (I'm not at that
Pc as I write.)
This seems like something odd I've done that I should be able to fix.
-> Does not seem likely that the driver would have a limit of 2 devices.
-> Perhaps by assigning a letter on PC A I've confused PB B? Can I unassign
cleanly? would that work?
-> Can I "wrap" the driver in an INF file and direct the seeking installer
to it?
Really, it isn't terribly important. We can get by with the drives that do
work. But it is terribly puzzling, and I'd love to understand what is going
on.
Thank you for any suggestions anf help!

In Windows XP screen save you can set up a 'slide show' extracting random

Windows XP Network >> SP2 and Internet access
I have a long list of issues with my machine right now and tried to remedy
them by backing up and reistalling windows XP. However, all is not well with
audio, video and various other drivers.
Error reporting recomends that I install SP2 but when I do so my internet
connection, although present, is very limited in that it 'comes-and-goes'. I
have a 1meg connection supplied by Blueyonder (Telewest) but the issue is
apparently not with them but with SP2. I have now removed SP2 and the
connection is fine again.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Can anyone perhaps advise me as
to what is causing the connection issue?

- Windows XP Support >> Printer ProblemHi all,
I have WindowsXP Professional I formated and reloded last week and all is
fine except whenever I boot my computer it "finds a new printer"
I have a Canon i320 installed and with the latest drivers..
When I installed the i320 Windows "found i320" but this new message just
says "found printer" (no model numnber).
It finds this ghost printer whether my i320 is turned ON or Off connected
to the pc or disconnected to the pc.
I have tried deleting the i320 and letting Windows re-detect the printer and
it finds the "i320" then on the same boot it also finds the "printer" so
then I have to go through the motions of letting it look for drivers and the
saying Drivers can't be found and then there was an error installing new
hardware....
This is not a major problem, this is just irritatting, the computer works
fine but I just don't want the hassel of anymore..
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Minimizing Open Applications to TaskbarFor a while I have not been able to minimize an application to the taskbar
for re-expanding later.
When I minimze an application it disappears completely from the screen and
does not appear on the taskbar. If I click on the application icon a new
window with a newly loaded application appears.
I am guessing I may have "reset" a setting accidentally somewhere along the
way, but can't figure out what it is.
Any ideas? Thanks.

- customize >> function keyboard re-assignhow to re-assign (re-map) the keyboard function keys..??
have keyboard with internet buttons but there are some
function keys that are wasted space.
want to save some (rename - refresh - resize) but in
documents would like to have keys do stuff like copy-
paste-save-close etc. also in web maybe changing to
popular sites (similar to links).
using ctrl/alt/shift with keys is good but to confusing
sometimes. why use 2 keys when one is easier.
seems like moving hand off mouse might relieve carp

- Windows XP Network >> Windows Explorer locks-up when I open "My Network Places" for the second timeHi all,
yesterday I decided to reinstall my PC from scratch. I installed Windows XP
Pro with SP 1a, latest version of drivers and every critical/windows update.
Everything worked flawlessly except for one thing. After every login I can
open "My Network Places" just for one time.
The first time I open it I can see my Residential Gateway Device (UPnP) and
every shared folder on the other PCs, but when I try to doubleclick on "My
Network Places" icon again, cursor changes to "Working in Background" (arrow
+ hourglass) for a while and nothing happens.
Then , when I log off, Windows says that an instance of explorer.exe is not
responding and I've to terminate it.
BTW: I made the same installation 3 times (from scratch every time... it
took the whole day...) but I always had the same behaviour.
Any idea?
Thanx in advance.

- Windows XP Network >> Internet Explorer 7 won't installI recently went to the Microsoft Updates page to update my Internet Explorer
to version 7. Overnight, it downloaded from the website. When I returned to
the computer a while later, I proceeded to install it. The computer went
through the whole installation process and asked me to restart. I did. When
I restarted the computer, Internet Explorer version 7 wasn't installed. It
was still running version 6. I went through this entire process several
times and the problem still exists. The Microsoft downloads history page
tells me that the update has been downloaded, but not installed. I've tried
repeatedly to install it with no success. How can I correct this problem?
