share printers ok but it only allows me to print one copy

- Windows XP Security >> Windows XP Security Update Not Showing UpWhen I click on the area to install the latest security update for Microsoft
XP to patch the latest flaw, my computer tells me that all updates are
installed. However, the last dated installed update is a fix from June in my
history of updates section.
Is the new security patch not currently available for download, even though
the site says it is? Anyone else having this problem? I have SP2 installed,
which the patch is supposed to be for.

have to uninstall my video card. It came with a nvidia I think 5500? Anyways,
I just bought an eVGA, 4000 MX 128M PCI NV94-LX EVGA for 52 bucks before
taxes. It was going for 59.99 at PC Club in Hawthorne, but when I showed him
a read-out from new egg.com that said 43 bucks + 3 bucks shipping and
handling. Well he dropped it 8 bucks. Can't complain. Anyways I want to
install it into my Compaq Presario 5000 A Series computer, but I'm not sure
if I have to uninstall the integrated graphics on my motherboard. I asked at
the techs at PC Club and they said " some motherboards you should and some
you shouldn't ". I love their answer. Well, should I go into BIOS and
uninstall the present graphics on my motherboard for the Compaq?

- Windows XP >> XP on Latitude CI have just gotten a used Latitude CPi and am wanting to install Windows XP
since that's what I'm used to. Can it handle it or or not? Anyone tried
that? Anything to look out for?

- Windows XP Support >> Multiple versions of same DLLI am trying to use third party controls in a VB application but they require
older versions of OLEAUT32 and OLEPRO32. I was able to copy the older
versions into the win/sys32 directory but after restarting my machine the
dlls reverted back to their newer counterparts. When I run the VB app, I
get a 429 ActiveX error.
Can I have both versions of the OLE* dlls residing on my machine? If so,
how do I tell VB (design and run time) to use the older versions? Thanks

- Windows XP >> Recommendation for best File Recovery ProgramI erased a file on my hard drive and now I need to try and recover it,
so I am looking for Recommendations for best File Recovery Program.
I know I can send my hard drive to a company, who will recover it for
me, but that's too expensive. I have Norton's Protected Recycle Bin, but
the file is no longer there.
I am running XP, without SP2.

- Windows XP Network >> Windows Firewall Weirdness on Multi-Home MachineMy laptop is running XPSP2 with all updates. It has an Intel 2915abg WNIC
(named WIRELESS) and a Intel Pro/100VE (named WIRED).
For exceptions, I have "File and Printer Sharing", "Network Diagnostics for
Windows XP", "Remote Assistance", "Remote Desktop", and "Windows Live
Messenger".
From another computer, I can ping WIRED, but not WIRELESS. Under the
Advanced tab, if I disable firewall on WIRELESS, it still doesn't work.
However, if I leave it enabled on WIRELESS and disable the firewall on WIRED,
suddenly, I can see WIRELESS from the other computer. I went into "ICMP
settings" and made sure that "Allow incoming echo request" was selected.
If I completely disable WIRED, then WIRELESS works perfectly.
Why would enabling or disabling the firewall on the other NIC matter?
Another data point is that SMB (File and Printer Sharing) works regardless
of whether the firewall is enabled on either card as long as the exception
for it is enabled.
I don't really care of I can ping this machine or not, but Remote Desktop
also doesn't work when I try to connect using the WIRELESS IP when the
firewall is active on WIRED.

- Windows XP >> problems...Can anyone tell me why the option of going in to standby mode is not
available to me anymore ...it is grayed out!!! Puter just went in to thge
shop for a fix ,,,and came back like this ...any suggestions out there. One
other thing ...whole system seems to be running a lot slower than before but
i am getting no error messages and no conflicts.

- Windows XP Security >> Firewall disabled at startup?!?hi,
i have had nortons firewall installed, set to run on startup, on my
computer for close to a year now (os is xp home), for some unknown
reason within the past week each time i boot up the firewall is
disabled. when i check the programs set up it shows the firewall is
'on', clicking on it doesn't seem to help. sometimes restarting the
computer the firewall will be 'on'. any suggestions?

- Windows XP >> Merging from Contacts problemI'm trying to merge from Contacts into Word. When I get
to the point that I pick contacts, it asks me to set
Outlook as my "default mail client." I have done this
and I keep getting the same error message. Can anyone
advise what to do next (yes, I've rebooted). Thanks.

from Microsoft, but, I was told that it was a virus which
will wipe out your computer. The program was in my new
computer when I received it. The name of the program
is " jdbgmgr.exe " and it's emblem is a teddy bear. My
computer had it entered in windows, in two places. Once
in "C:windows\last good\system32\" and
in "C:windows\system32". Norton and the other Virus
detecters do not detect that it is in the computer. Can
you check this out and tell me if I was miss informed?

- Windows XP Update >> Update errorAfter we installed SP 2 using automatic updates we received this error
message every time we start the computer. After we click on OK the computer
sits there with no tool bars or functions available. You have to use Ctl alt
dlt to shut it down. The same error comes up in safe mode.

I am unable to download the recent update KB898461. I have got automatic
updates configured. When downloading it starts and the comes back with a
message saying update not successful. I have tried downloading the file
directly from the KB Info screen and it starts to backup registry and install
files but then comes back with a set-up cancelled message. I get no error
messages. Do I need to install it ?

- Windows XP Security >> Outlook Express is Removing AttachmentsFor the first time I downloaded and installed a Windows
Update. It happened to be the XP Service Pack.
As soon as I did, my Outlook Express started removing
every attachment I received, giving me the message that
it had removed an "unsafe attachment." I know the
senders in each instance, and none of these attachments
are "unsafe."
Can someone tell me how to keep my OE attachments. I
have my security settings on Medium.

I have a question about how various web sites get ahold of your e-mail
address.
I don't visit porno sites, nor questionable sites, but still I get filth
spam, and generic spam, I don't use my valid e-mail address for posting
questions, nor answers, so how the blanky blank do these filth spammers get
my e-mail address??
some are broadcast to undisclosed receipent so that I understand, but not
the ones directed to me...
if I do not use my pc for a few days the filth dwindles down, but when I use
the internet for anything, I suddenly get swamped with it.

screen is there any possible way to have the On-Screen Keyboard be
available at that time? Is there anywhere within the registry to
accomplish this? I'm a disabled user who has to rely on speech
recognition software, but I am able to use a mouse adequately enough to
use the On-Screen Keyboard for manual input when required. I would
like to be able to somehow input a password when Windows boots for more
security.

- Windows XP Support >> Hard drive crash with no recovery diskMy HD suffered a mechanical failure and I cannot find the system recovery
disk (*&!). The PC had a manufacturer-installed Home edition of XP
(registration number is on the case) and I paid for the Pro upgrade (for
which I have the disks). I'm going to replace the HD and load everything
from scratch, but I don't have XP home disks. The system recovery disk for
my pc (HP pavilion 7955) is nowhere to be found on the web (or at HP)(*&!).
What are my best (least expensive) options for getting and loading an
authentic version of XP home on this new HD?

I have a problem with ICS on Windows XP Professional on one computer
(server), and Windows 2000 Professional on another computer as a client.
My LAN is fully working, I can share folders between the two computers and
ping each others without any problem.
I'm using two Realtek 8139 10/100Mbps (PCI) Fast Ethernet cards with a
crossover cable. I've disabled the ICF on the server and enabled Simple
File Sharing. Both Windows' are fresh installations (installed two or three
weeks ago), I didn't make much changes on them, just the necessary drivers
(all WHQL) and the Service Packs (for the client I've only applied SP3 to
Windows 2000 due to problems I've read about 3D Studio Max and SP4)
- From the server, I can access to internet, using my ADSL connection.
- From the client, I can ping and tracert addresses on my LAN and internet
but I can't display any website, I can't check my mails or use FTP, I can't
read Usenet either.
More details about my configuration:

LAN settings on the server (Windows XP):
Computer Name: net
Workgroup: LAN
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
I added my clients to %systemroot%/system32/drivers/etc/hosts on the
server:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.3 workstation.MSHOME.NET
192.168.0.2 networks.MSHOME.NET
(192.168.0.2 is a Slackware installation I have on another partition of my
client computer, and I made sure that I didn't forget the two blank lines
and the end of the HOSTS file.)
Here is the contents of %systemroot%system32/drivers/etc/hosts.ics on the
server:

I've already tried, without success, to:
- set my ISP's DNS addresses to the "Preferred" and "Alternate DNS Server"
on the LAN connection on the client
- set the gateway (192.168.0.1) as the default gateway on the server as
well
- use "MSHOME" as a workgroup name
- disable some of my firewall rules (Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5)
- disable the firewall itself
- uninstall, physically remove and reinstall the NIC's on both machines
I've also noticed that exactly the same thing happens on Slackware, I can
ping, I do receive Echo Replies and I can tracert URLs, it resolves the
domain names into their IPs but I can't access to internet via any browser.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP Network >> XP Pro Workstations hanging when accessing files on Win2K ServerI have recently upgraded 10 workstations from Win 2K Pro
to XP Pro. The users are having a major problem when
they try to access their documents of shared folders on a
Win 2K Pro Server. An example would be when they try to
open a word 2k doc it hangs and takes a very long time to
open then is slow to react when they enter new data. Any
ideas to what would cause this slowdown? Thanks so much

- Windows XP Setup >> SP Pro OEM Install ProblemsI have built a machine that I am attempting to install a new OEM XP pro (sp2)
on that stalls at the "Starting Windows" blue screen. I can load from the CD
using another computer and I can install 2000 on the PC in question. When I
load from another machine that uses the same chipset then install the CD in
to the desired machine I get to the Windows XP black screen, it fades and I
get no farther. When I load 2000 on to the desired machine everything works
okay. I have tried to use a XP pro preinstall CD but I get wierd IDE errors
that make no sense at all. I would like to get XP pro on this but it is
proving to be quite a challange,...any ideas?

this application (svchost.exe) cannot start because the following dltime.dll
file is missing,
this first occured after Norton Antivirus alerted me that a virus had been
deleted
How can I repair this problem as I dont have any back ups of the file
I have also noticed a variety of outbound activity from my computer
appraently trying to connect to other computers,this happens everytime I
connect to the internet, and only begun after this file disapperared.

- Windows XP Support >> Cannot Log in to windowsI turn the computer on and once it starts up it goes to the screen where
there is normally an icon to click for the user you wont to log in as.
However, there are no user names/icons on the screen it just says welcome and
has the "Turn Off Computer" in bottom corner. I tried to enter Safe Mode to
see if Administrator name appears as it says in the Windows XP manual... but
no user names appear there either. Is there any way I can login?
