- Windows XP Network >> File Sharing in OEWindows XP is supposed to let one share a computer's disks and folders with
other computers on the network, using a method called Simple File Sharing.
I would like to share a few specific folders of Inbox and Sent items from OE
5.5 in one PC to OE 6 in another PC. How does one share this without wanting
to share ALL folders of OE from the PC with OE 5.5? I also would like to
know if I can simply migrate ALL NEW Emails from the older PC with OE 5.5 to
a newer PC with OE 6?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> jfhhk.dllWindows Explorer has developed a habit of occasionally using around 50% of my
Pentium 4 (3Ghz) power. Using Process Explorer I discovered that it was a
process called jfhhk.dll. I can 'kill' this process without causing any
apparent harm to the OS but this is only a temporary remedy as it will happen
again at another time.
Does anybody know what this process actually is or why it starts? And more
importantly, how to stop it permanently. It's damn annoying when it happens
during a game.

- Windows XP >> locked McAfee & Norton in XP upgradePlease help me with this problem.
I upgraded from WIN ME to XP Home Edition, but didn't
remove McAfee VirusScan Version V5.13, and Norton
Utilities before running the upgrade.
Now I am unable to access, delete, or install a later
version of these programs, since they recognise a
previous version which needs to be deleted first.
I specially worry about the absence of a Virus Scan. Hope
someone ia able to help with advise, what next?
Hopefully I went through the proper channels and used the
correct protocols.

- Windows XP Setup >> STARTROM.COM "The network location cannot be reached..."Ok every step I take seems to bring more errors.
In the Riprep wizard I have reached the Copy and Update Registry
Information and receive the following error:
STARTROM.COM
" The network location cannot be reached. For information about
network troubleshooting, see Windows Help."
Anyone else receive this error?

- Windows XP Update >> Can't install windows Installer 3.1Don't have latest updates. Am trying to get them, but says I need to install
the Windows Installer 3.1 first which it tries to do when I select the
Express or Custom button. It fails on the install with error 0x80070002.
Have XP pro Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158: Service Pack 2)
Have also tried the install file for the Windows Installer 3.1 to no avail.
I thought I had my system on auto updates but didn't, so it's pretty far out
of date.
Any suggestions???

- Windows XP Network >> Strange PPTP VPN behavior-- "greIn_ip_match !Found" messagesHello, I recently purchased a LinkSys BEFSX41 firewall router and have
been trying to connect from Work to Home (the router is at home). I
am using WinXP pro on both ends and connect first using PPTP, and then
run Remote Desktop.
The home router forwards tcp port 1723, and I have set PPTP
pass-through, so everything is legit on the home setup. I couldn't
get it working until I disabled, "Use default gateway on the remote
network" in my work VPN connection setup. I can now ping all the
servers and everything else seems normal. Here is the problem:
After connecting VPN and launching Remote Desktop, I notice constant
network activity over the connection, even when I'm not moving the
mouse or running any programs; there is no screen activity either.
The reverse connection (from home to work) doesn't have this issue. I
notice things are VERY slow and when I check the router firewall logs,
I find that the constant network activity is due to multiple messages
like this--
"greIn_ip_match !Found"
As long as I am connected to the VPN, the router is filling with these
messages. What do they mean?!! Why doesn't this happen when I
connect from home to work? Btw, the VPN at home assigns an IP to my
work computer that's on the same subnet as the home network, so things
SHOULD go smoothly.

- Windows XP >> Page Faults - explorer.exeI've been trying to debug a problem with seemly random
hard disk accesses while running Windows XP.
The noise of the disk access is bothering me. Every few
seconds the drive will do a short seek.
I'm running a RAID-0 (on-chip SATA) configuration with 2
(brand new) 36GB 10,000RPM drives on an brand new Abit-
IC7G MAX III Motherboard with a P4 2.4Ghz CPU.
The problems occurred immediately after installing a
Windows XP.
I have 512MB of Crucial RAM (also brand new). About 250MB
is in use with the OS loaded.
When looking at the Task Scheduler I noticed that several
processes are having Page Faults which I assume will lead
to a hard disk access at some point. Explorer.exe is one
process that is having page faults.
Other than the "disk access noise" my system is stable. No
crashes or blue screens of death.... just the random
access to the disk for no apparent reason.
Sandra gave me a disk performance score of over 65000.
My machine is not overclocked. I turned off the disk
indexing service. All windows updates were applied so the
machine is not downloading new updates from the net.
I'm currently running a RAM test to verify that the Page
Faults are not due to flakey Ram. First pass of the tests
were fine.
I'm also trying to eliminate the RAID configuration and
motherboard from the equation. Everything is new on my
computer.
Question: Where can I find a utility that allows me to log
which program is doing the disk seek? I tried turning on
the Performance Logs to capture the data but I can't
figure out how to display the "elt" file that the
performance logs generated.
I also have a 13GB Hard Drive installed as Disk-0 on the
same IDE device as the RAID Drives, so another test I'm
about to try is to remove it from the scenario.
Finally, the RAID-0 Disk is partitioned as logical 2
drives (C and D). I set this up during the windows XP
install.
After doing the memory test, I'm going to try installing
Windows XP again (complete fresh install) after
reconfiguring the RAID-0 back to a single C drive.
Any ideas/suggestions?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> WMF Patch QuestionAfter I applied the latest patch, I do not have Microsoft Picture and Fax
Viewer available to open up JPEGs and/or GIFs. It is not in the file
association list of programs. Does Microsoft wipe out this altogether with
the patch? Can someone tell me what has happened?

- Windows XP >> How to unmap a network driveWeird problem. I know how to unmap a network drive but for some odd reason
when I try to unmap this one particular drive it will reappear after I
reboot the machine. If I remap this drive to a different folder and reboot,
now its back to looking at the old folder.
I am using XP home and I am on a domain (I believe this is very important).
Is it possible that the domain admins did something that is forcing machines
to map to this drive and if so, how do I stop it.

- Windows XP Setup >> Norton Anti-Virus Won't Run as Power UserI have a Windows XP Pro computer that logs into an NT domain. The
normal user, let's call userA, is listed as a power user in the local
user account management, but Norton Anti-Virus 2003 (which was installed
under the NT domain administrator account) real-time protection process
won't start and can't be enabled. If I put userA in the the local
administrators group then Norton real-time process will start. How can
I get it to run, with userA not in the local administrators group?

is it possible to change from 070227-2254 to 050301-1519?
because I have an application which can run normally in 050301-1519 but not
in 070227-2254!!

Added web cam to xp. Followed manufacturers sequence to
add hardware exactly.
On reboot got message window titled 'Mobile Devices
Properties' and text 'Network transport not installed'.
Has anyone seen this.
Thought it might be a TCPIP problem so used the 'netsh
int ip rest c:\resetlog.txt' cmd to reset the TCP/IP
stack but problem persists.
Help.

- Windows XP >> BSOD Upon Restart/Shutdown - On Two Different PCs - HELP!!!I have had two of my HP Pavilion PCs recently (over the last two weeks) start
to have BSOD problems at restart/shutdown. I get the famous
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x0A) error, with not much more info as far as the
driver issue, etc. Both machines exhibit the same error codes of memory.
This leads me to believe that some recent SW event on both machines occurred,
and not likely a HW issue. I have tried everything I can think of. In to
Safe mode. Disable all apps and services. Driver verification (which really
screwed my PC up enough that I had to recover a Norton Ghost image from 45
days ago. Same BSODâ??s continue to occur!! Even after a few times with the
old image restore, something in the system causes the BSOD. I have tried not
downloading updates from MS and Norton for my programs. I am so
frustrated!!! I see other folks here and there are having some problems with
this. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance!!!

- Windows XP >> BAD_POOL_HEADER error after using DiscWizardI have recently used the Seagate DiscWizard software (by Acronis) to image
and clone my system. After running the clone for a few weeks I discovered
that NTbackup causes a BSOD (BAD_POOL_HEADER, Stop code 0x19, parameter 1 is
0x20). The problem is almost identical to that described in posting "backup
using shadow copy causes blue screen stop" by what
bobfnospam@duxsysnospam.com. If volume shadow copy is disabled, the backup
works properly.
I found that the problems with NTbackup could be fixed by using System
Restore after booting up the clone, to return to a checkpoint made before the
cloning (or imaging) operation. Pesumably, this resets something in the
registry or system files that has been corrupted by DiscWizard.
Unfortunately, I'm not convinced this is the only corrupted aspect of the
system though. Prior to using DiscWizard, my system has been stable for 6
months at least. After restoring the image, I have found other strange things.
For example, the system event log was truncated to the day before the image
was performed, where-as it previously went back to about Feb 2007. More
ominously, I now find that the system is inconsistently updating file access
times. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be totally
random.
I continued working on the original clone for some weeks before I realised
there were problems, when I used NTbackup for the first time since cloning.
However, in tracking down the NTbackup problem, I also discovered that
indexing had been corrupted, system restore was dead, and the sound had gone.
I tried correcting these, but in the end found it was better to start over
again from the system image.
Now my system seems superficially OK, except for not updating the file
access times consistently. Can anyone suggest a fix for this problem?
Is there some utility (other than sfc) I can use to check my system is not
corrupted in some way? I would rather avoid a repair install. I only have a
slow dial-up, so re-downloading years of Windows updates is not an option!

- Windows XP Security >> migrate.exe - Entry point not found (during SP2 update)Toward the end of the SP2 update, it stopped and gave me the error msg in my
subject line. The error msg then said "The procedure entry point GetIUMS
could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL". I ended up
having to restart to get out of the error msg. I then uninstalled the SP2 and
did a system restore. Any help on this error msg would be extremely helpful.

day. I then shut my computer down but am not able to get
back into my computer. The screens that show the computer
info. ram, memory, system, etc. are as far as I can get
then after the 3 screens it goes back to the first screen.

- Windows XP >> close telnetI realize this isn't a python newsgroup, but this is mostly a windows
question....
Currently, I'm launching a telnet window with a python call like this:
TSS_Handle = subprocess.Popen("start telnet.exe -f " + TSS_Log_Path + "
localhost 6000", shell=True)
which is essentially the equivalent of typing
"start telnet.exe -f myLogFile.txt localhost 6000"
into a command window. The problem is that I can't close the telnet
session I create (with any conventional python methods that I know of).
Is there a way to close all telnet windows currently open or some
other method which will perform a telnet termination ?

- Windows XP Setup >> Start Up Error, syscpy.exeIt seems that I got a bug in my system that McAfee
cleaned up for me. Now every time I start up or reboot, I
get an error page that says " syscpy.exe has encountered
a problem and needs to close." All programs seem to be
operating normally, but this message informs me something
is not working correctly. Any suggestions would be
helpful.
