- Windows XP Setup >> Timer for XP loggon?Hello. Is there any way limit the amount of time a user
can be logged on when using multiple loggons on a Windows
XP Home computer?
I have four sons and I'd like to give each their own
loggon on my Window XP computer. To exercise a bit of
parental control, I'd like to limit the amount of time
each spends on the compter per day. My vision is that each
could loggon with their own loggon (that's the easy part)
and then the computer would start a timer that runs in the
background that would warn them as their time draws to a
close and then log them off at the expiration if they
don't logoff voluntarily.
Is something like that even possible with with Windows XP
or will I have to install third party software. If so,
does anyone have a suggestion about whre I could find such
a program?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Security >> Panda AntivirusI'm having problems with Panda Antivirus in Windows XP.
The anti virus program seems to be running fine, but
whenever I try and open the user interface it just dies
(just the user interface not the antivirus).
I do not believe this is caused by a virus, as we have
independent servers virus scanning in- and outgoing
traffic and network drives.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Detecting video cardHello everyone,
I'm borrowing a computer my friend built and I don't know
what kind of video card he used. It's a Celeron 1.7GHz
w/376 MB RAM. The Device Manager has a question mark
next to "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" and the
computer is incredibly sluggish for the processor and
bus. Is there a program that can detect what type of card
I'm using so I can go get a driver for it? I don't know
much about the Windows OS because I'm used to the MacOS
so I'm a bit lost.
Thanks in advance

- Windows XP Network >> Network cable unplugged, but it's NOT!!!! Broadcom 440x NICThanks for looking and for any help you might be able to provide.
My laptop says that a cable is unplugged, but I've tried 3 different cables
that all work fine on another machine. This is a Broadcom 440x integrated
10/100 NIC and I have the suite that I can test the card. It passes all the
tests!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and the card. Nothing, still
says the cable is unplugged.
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be??

There is no hardware failure and the disk is ok. Other tools (like ultra

If i install daemon tools or alcohol virtual drives, i get de same message

I tried to remove the dvd from the device manager and the same message

- Windows XP Setup >> Installing Windows XPI was having a problem with my Windows XP. I asked several people I knew, and
most of them told me to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows.
So I formatted my PC ( full format), and began to reinstall Windows XP Home
Edition on my hard drive. It starts to install, begins "INSTALLING DEVICES"
and about half way through that ( it says there is 34 min. remaining to
install), it freezes up. The little boxes in the bottom right hand corner
just stop moving too, and my pc is making the usual noises it makes when
"working". You can tell it just stops. I reset the pc, and it keeps doing the
same thing everytime.
Any Ideas.
Thanks

Corrupt Restoration Point.. It happens and unfortunately, it means they are
worthless to you:
(This, of course, will erase any previous restore point you have.)
Turn off System Restore.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310405
Reboot.
Turn on System Restore.

Make a Manual Restoration Point.

Windows XP Perform Maintain >> system restore
Hi Leo,
This happened with me too and I later found out that Real
Player was affecting the restore points and deleting them
altogether. I uninstalled Real Player and have had no
problems since. I don't know if this will help.

- Windows XP >> Disappearing "Documents and Settings" directory - HELP! HELP! HELPWhile preparing to send my wife's Dell D510 in for repairs (Blue Screen of
Death for a bad video chip), I was starting to back up her data to a CD ROM
drive. I was doing this inside of WinExp and was simply grabbing all of the
sub-directories under "Documents and Settings" and moving them to the D:
drive icon, prior to issuing the "burn CD" command.
The copy process got hung up, and I attempted to cancel it. Just then (sure
enough!), I got the BSoD and had to power down the laptop.
When I powered back up and logged back in (we have three users), my screen
showed only the icons for IE and Recycle! When I pulled up the Start Menu,
the "All Programs" selection shows "(empty)". When I try to access the
different document files (my login has Admin status), they are all empty!
I used the "Run" option and opened up Explorer. It showed no "Documents and
Settings" directory on the C drive, but it did show the three logon Document
Folders and the Shared Documents Folder as standalone icons. However, each
of those folders are empty! The D: drive cache shows only the "All Users"
and "Administrator" directories.
I have tried the http://www.tweakxp.com/article36827.aspx trick to no avail.
Of course, in the midst of all of this frantic keyboarding, I get the BSoD
popping up fairly often, necessitating a cold reboot.
Can some please tell me how to save my wife's files (and therefore my skin!)?
Thanks!

- Windows XP Network >> Can't find shared printer on networkWe have a home network, consisting of just two PC's. Computer A is the host,
and Computer B is the second PC. Both run Windows XP Home edition, SP2.
Computer B has McAfee security system.
Everything worked fine on Saturday night. Computer B was 'on the road' on
Sunday/Monday, and used an in-room internet connection in a hotel. On Sunday,
Computer A installed Symantec's Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2006. On
Monday night, when Computer B returned home and connected to the home
network, it was able to easily connect to the internet (cable modem through
Computer A), but has not been able to print on the network printer. Computer
A can print fine. We have tried the following: remove NIS using add/remove
hardware utility -- no luck. Re-install NIS - no luck. We have called
Symantec Tech Support, but have not been successful with their suggestions.
They did suggest a 'clean boot', which we have not tried.
We definitely do NOT want to mess up the internet connection for Computer B.
We'd rather have a successful internet connection for Computer B than a
successful printer connection, but it would sure be nice to get back to where
everything works again.
Computer B can successfully ping both Computer B and Computer A. Computer A
cannot ping Computer B, but can ping Computer A. Is the problem with Computer
A or Computer B? And what should we try next?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
