- Windows XP >> Can I move Root Drive from H: back to C:?Hi All,
Came across a customer that had a neighborhood child
replace her hard drive and reinstall XP Home. Problem:
the kid didn't realize he had to disconnect the zip drive
before installing XP. So, the root drive is H:
and not C:, making all kinds of problems with installing
drivers, etc..
Question: is there a way to remap the root drive back
to C: or am I looking at a reinstall of XP?
Many thanks,

- Windows XP Network >> Unable to add additional shared foldersI have 2 PCs on a home network: XP Pro & XP Home. I have recovered from a
fatal crash on XP Home with a new installation. Data did survive.
XP Home accesses internet via XP Pro and works fine.
2 folders - Shared & user-a - that were previously shared, continue to be
shared. This is true on both computers. Each computer can access two folders
on the other.
I have not been able to share any additional folders, including folders that
were shared prior to the crash.
How should I troubleshoot this?

- Windows XP Network >> Dial up networking with two PC'sI would like to know if it is possible to dial up to a
remote Pc and share files?
-I have already attempted to create an "Incoming
Connection" on one PC and then a "Dial Up Connection" on
the other PC, they connect and the host is showing that
the guest has connected but that's as far as it goes...
-I tried pinging each ip address and I get no reply. The
host has successfully set up the ip addresses for both
computers and I have made sure that they are on the same
Workgroup...
-Does anybody know if this can be done???
if so how????
PS: both pc's are running windows xp pro and neither have
lan cards, both have modems(obviously)

Windows XP Support >> Sending movie production to DV camera
Using Movie Maker version 2.1. My production looks good with it's transitions
and music when I preview it in Movie maker but, when I send it to my Digital
camera, the production is all there with the music but the music skips. Any
information solving this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

- Windows XP Update >> Spooling, RAS and Remote Desktop fails after August-UpdatesHi there,
have 10 servers running. All Windows2000 Advanced Servers.
Single Domain, very simple.
Did the August-Updates in all machines.
Unfortunatley on the Domaincontroller some problems occured:
1.The system is very slow.
2.The PrintSpooler won't work properly.
3. Remote Desktop won't work anymore.
4. RAS-Settings disappeard
1.All processes look normal, no 100%CPU-Usage etc. While updating, i had a
error with my VLAN-Configutration, but solveable.
2. Since the Update, we can't print anymore. When trying to send a
test-document, i get an error that the Spool-Server is full. The Status of
all printers are OK, i can get all device informations.
Had some Shockwave-Files in WINNT/system32/spool/printers....deleted them as
suggested in another post. no changes
3. Remote Desktop won't connect to this server anymore. "The connection was
ended because of a networkerror"
4. After the Update, all my Static Routes were deleted.

- Windows XP Hardware >> SATA drives and Windows XPI am having trouble with Windows XP installing on SATA
hard drives. I created a drivers diskette, so when
Windows begins to install, I press F6 and point it to the
A: drive. It lists all the drivers available and I choose
the one for XP. When XP gets to the point when it shows
the hard drives available for installation, it says that
there are no local drives available. I have confirmed the
installation of the drives by checking them through the
BIOS configurations....the BIOS recognizes that the HD is
there. What other options do I have? Thanks!

- Windows XP >> Setting App to always runHi,
We have a critical application that must always be running on the system.
Is there anyway to set up the system so that the application will re-launch
if it generates an error or someone accidently shuts down the app?

- Windows XP Setup >> Trying to connect my new XP Pro to my existing 98SE thru a hubAs the title says. I have 2 computers 1 running the new XP Pro and the
other running 98SE. I use to have both of them running 98SE and both of
them were able to share files and the printer. Then 1 of them fried and I
got this new XP.
Before it use to be the case of having 2 manual IPs (I chose 192.168.122.1 &
.2 with 255.255.255.0 as the mask) and setting up the same workgroups etc.
and it would all be fine.
Now with XP I tried to set up the network wizard and went thru the whole
wizard and nothing happened (that I saw) in the XP Pro. It couldn't see the
other computer no matter how I searched for it. But the wizard made me a
netsetup disk.
So I went to the other computer, the 98SE. I tried searching for the XP. I
could 'see' it but not access it. I then put in my floppy and started
netsetup. It added a bunch of protocols, adaptors etc and reboot the 98SE
machine. When it came back up. I wasn't able to 'see' the XP machine any
more.
How do I get XP Pro and 98SE to share? I just want a simple network with no
DNS servers or Domains just a workgroup.
Ideas?
Thanks
Kevin

- Windows XP Network >> Limited user account problemCan someone help with this problem, pls? I have a network of 11 Dell PCs
running XP Pro. They are all connected to a wireles router. They can all
connect to the internet and browse without problem, but only if I have logged
in as Administrator and switched user. If not, and the first and only log in
is by a limited user account, then the user can't type into the address bar
of IE, loses the Start menu and can't view the log off screen long enough to
click anything.
As a school, I don't want to keep logged in and it means i need to assign
admin rights to teachers so they can log in and switch user before lessons.
This is a huge security risk as they keep letting students see their password.
Many thanks for any help.

- Windows XP >> Start up errorWhen I boot this computer before windows finishes loading
I get the error "parser value creation failed line 438"
click on ok 6-10 times for the message to go away and
then it will finish loading and runs normally from that
point. Running XPpro, office XP. Any help is
appreceated.

- Windows XP >> Cannot logon as more than one userHello
I cannot login as more than one user in Windows XP.
I am using XP Professional on a ThinkPad T41.
I have not used Fast User Switching on my laptop, and I am now using my
laptop at a new job. The IT guy set up a new user account for use at work so
I could access network files and recommended that I user fast user switching
to switch back and forth between my work account and personal account to use
Outlook, etc.
At first I was unable to even click in through the "User Accounts" options
to tick the boxes for using the Welcome Screen and fast user switching,
because when I tried I was given an error. I was able to fix the error by
uninstalling and reinstalling IBM'S Access Connections program.
Next, I would tick the Fast User Switching box and hit apply but when I
logged back in the box would be unticked. I went to Kelly's Korner and was
able to fix that problem.
<b>Now</b>, the problem is that when I click "Switch User" and go to the
Welcome screen, I cannot log on to another username. I enter the password and
hit enter and the screen goes blue briefly and kicks me back to the Welcome
screen. I am only able to log back in to the account name that I came from.
I have seen screenshots of the Welcome screen with "logged on" below the
usernames that are logged on, and when I click Switch User and go to the
Welcome screen, none of the names say "logged on," not even from the account
that I am using at the time.
It seems to me that the problem is that I am not being allowed to log on as
more than one user at a time, and I have searched and searched and cannot
find an answer to the problem.
Thanks.

- customize >> Drive letters - how to change?Hello there: I've received excellent help here before, hope you can assist
again.
I've purchased a new hard drive. I made an image (with BootitNG utility) of
my old xp pro. 4 gig. partition. I then formatted the new disk with one 6
gig. ntfs partition, and 4 other logical fat32 partitions (I want to dual
boot linux and need to share files). I installed the new disk as slave,
restored the image to the new 6 gig. partition, swapped the drives around
and booted from the new 6 gig. partition with no problem.
Here are the two situations that I would like help with:
First, the drive letters are not what I'd like them to be. Currently, the
primary ntfs partition on the master h/drive is E:. C: is still the
partition on the (now) slave drive. I'd like the partition I'm booting from
now to be C: but I don't know how to change it. All the other partitions,
well I can learn to live with those letters, but I'd like the primary,
active partition on the master to be C:
Second, the 4 gig. image restored onto the 6 gig. partition leaves 2 gigs.
'unallocated' according to Disk Manager. How can I get those to be used by
the operating system imaged onto that partition?
thanks for the help
