- Windows XP MovieMaker >> MM" Crashes when initially going in to programI used to use the oiginal mark 1 version of mm then I installed MM2 and when
I enter the program I get the box saying that I have encountered a problem
and the program must close. Since then I have installed SP2 and this has
made no difference. I also have another program, Power Director Pro and
this does the same thing so I am unable to do any Movie work.
I have read many articles, thougt at one stage Codecs may be the problem,
turned off automatic load but tis has made no difference.
Any one any ideas as to what might be wrong. The computer functions well in
all other areas.

- Windows XP >> bug: auto-arranges despite being switched off [Windows Explorer]Hi,
To reproduce this bug:
Create a folder with the auto-arrange option switched off (under View->Arrange Icons by...).
Now, drag and drop a few different icons into this folder (don't drag and drop folders, as they seem to work OK).
Sometimes they will stay where you drop them; and sometimes they will be added as if auto-arrange was switched on (that is, they will be placed neear the top right-hand corner, if room is available).
The behavor can differ for exactly the same icon, if you move it back and forth between the desktop and the folder a few times. It seems that icons that represent folders are always placed correctly.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
My desktop gets messy, and I would like to use folders as virtual desktops, with different categories of icons within them. The physical placement is very important for me, because it helps me to find things. I would like to be able to
select a group of icons on the desktoip, and shift them into a folder, while retaining their placement relative to each other.
I'm using Windows XP Professional:
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633 : Service Pack 1)
and I've installed many of the auto-update patches.
Thanks for any help with this.
Brendan
BTW: Is there a way to report a bug to Microsoft?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Keyboard Hot-ButtonI purchased a new PC (e-machiine T2865) on Tuesday of
last and I'm attempting to reconfigure the keyboard
internet hot-button. What I'd like to do is set the hot-
button so that when I press it my high-speed internet
connection launches. Right now when I press the button
the dial connecton (AOL) launches. How do I make this
change a reality?

On boot up Windows Home edition XP shows all descriptions of apps and file
names as hieroglyphics /symbols. all programmes work OK and files when copied
to another PC work OK with correct readable file descriptions.
I have tried running restore without success as well as reinstalling
Windows and updating the BIOS. Problem persists when started in safe mode.
Problem happened after PC had been on a few days and when restarted got a
blue screen which disappeared too quick to read.
PC uses AMD 2800 Athlon / ASUS A7N8X Deluxe M/Board / 128mb ATI Radeon
9600XT video card.
Thanks in advance

Windows XP Security >> Client Services for Netware Uninstall????
Wheen I try to reactivate my Welcome screen in XP Pro, I get an error
message saying that Client Services for Netware has disabled the Welcome
screen and Fast Using Switching. Uninstall Client Services for Netware.
It's disabled in Services anyway. I cannot locate Client Services for
Netware in Add/Remove Programs or Add/Remove Windows Components.
How do I do this?
Thanks

Open your network connections properties.. Find the "Microsoft Client for
Netware" entry, click on it and then click on the UNINSTALL button.

- Windows XP >> CD Key IssueBought my puter on line and it came loaded with
software. I have since started getting errors saying my
Windows XP may have been bootleg or pirated. I went out

have to re-install EVERYTHING. Is there a way I can put
my disc in and tell windows the new cd key?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Exchange 2003/Raid DrivesHello, forgive me if this is not in the correct category, but my problem
spans a number of areas.
I am running a Dell Dimension 2400 machine. It is a celeron 2.6g with 1GB
ram. I have also added three extra internal IDE HDDs. As my motherboard did
not have spare IDE ports, I installed a raid card to allow me to connect up
to 4 additional IDE devices, to which I have connected my three additional
HDDs (note: the C drive is still connected to the motherboard direct). I
have not used a raid configuration on my drives as I do not know what one is,
or how to go about configuring it.
All was well until January when I installed Microsoft Office Professional
2003, when the computer began to stop randomly displaying the classic Windows
blue screen with a STOP 0x000000B8 message. It took me a while to figure out
what was causing it, during which time I formatted my C and re-installed
windows. However, as soon as I installed Office again, the problem started.
By googling the error message STOP 0x000000B8 I came accross this site:
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange_2003_clustering.htm
(about 2 thirds of the way down the page) which suggested that the problem
was related to the Exchange 2003 component which is bundled with Office 2003
i believe. However, it refers to it in relation to running an e-mail server
which I am not doing.
Interestingly, the problem only seems to occur when I am at university and
connecting to the net through the university LAN. When I am at home in the
holidays, connecting to the net through my wireless network within my home,
the problem does not present itself.
If anyone could offer any assistance, or even suggest somewhere I might find
a 'cure', then it would me much appreciated.
Regards,

- Windows XP Setup >> pci.sys corruptedI just built a computer for my son and purchased a new
copy of WindowsXP Home Edition. On the initial start-up,
I lost power momentarily. After getting back up and
running, installing locks up and we get the error
message, "the file pci.sys is corrupted". Where can I
return this cd to get a new one. I ordered this on-line
and don't feel like waiting another two weeks for the
replacement.

haven't installed a new network device. Yesterday ZA
asked me to name the network (strange IP address)- I
named it "Possible Spy". Later I noticed that it
disappeared from the ZA zones list. Is this some kind of
hacker activity, family members mischief, or Windows XP
glitch?

- Windows XP Update >> Windows Update CatalogHi all -
I don't see the option to list XP SP2 in the list of operating systems on
"Find driver updates for hardware devices" of the Windows Update Catalog.
Also it appears that many of the driver updates that are listed in this
section are outdated. The 'new' WindowsUpdate at update.microsoft.com lists
new driver packages available to install but I can only find old packages on
the Windows Update Catalog site.
Any ideas on how I can manually download the driver packages that the 'new'
Windows Updates site shows me?

- Windows XP Hardware >> USB reconnection failsWe have a device connected to a Win XP PC using our own device driver. When
the USB line is zapped with electrostatic discharge the communication
between our device and PC dies, and our device detects this condition and
resets itself. However, after this reset the XP PC does not detect that the
device has been reset/reconnected so the driver never loads. We can fix this
only by resetting the PC which is not a good solution. Any ideas will be
greatly appreciated...
Thanks !

- Windows XP Support >> Unable to access MSupdate.Hi All,
Using a validated oem XP home w/sp2 on an Acer Aspire 1690 laptop.
When trying to access Microsoft update site I receive the following message:
"Files required to use Microsoft update are no longer registered or
installed on your computer."
(It gives me the following two options to click on)
"To continue register or re-install the files for me now."
or
"Let me read about options to fix this problem"
Clicking on the first option it tries or looks like it tries to download and
re-install the files.
However, when I try to access msupdate again it reverts back to the above
message.
The second option about reading for fixes doesn't have a suggested solution
for this apparent problem.
The MS knowledge base hasn't shed any light on the problem either.
Any ideas folks?
Thanks for your time.
David.

- Windows XP >> pagefile.csp? My c: drive has two pagefiles: pagefile.sys and pagefile.csp, both almost
400 MB. The csp file is dated 1/6/2006 and the sys file is dated today. I
can't find anything in the knowledge base about this .csp file. Does anyone
know what that is? Can I delete it?
Thanks,
